R56 Project WRC (all welcome)
Lookin' good Eco. Question for you, can you tell me how exactly did you install your rally armor mudflaps? I have mine sitting on my desk but don't know exactly what hardware and how many mounting points I should go about doing mine. Thanks!
I'll post install photo's and info tomorrow, but basically three machine screws, penny washers, and u-nuts ( which I have pictures of as well ). The rears are a pain do to no flat surface to install too.
Its been a very busy week, I apologies for the delay
All four mud flaps were mounted, I just haven't had time to do final alignment adjustments. but here are some install photos.
These are referred to as U-nuts, I was able to buy them at the local automotive parts store, I use these in Aviation with sheet metal and trim. they sandwich the material you are mounting to, and pinch once tension in applied to them with a screw, you can get ones for sheet metal screws or machine screws, I will be replacing these with machine screw ones:

So I loosened the felt Fender liner, and pulled it from the wheel well enough to place the U-nuts. The felt Liner has curved edges, so I made a slit with an x-acto knife and slid the U-nut through, once the U-nut was in Place I marked a hole for the screw. I didn't push the U-nut all the way in so that it would stick out a bit and help hold the Felt liner in place behind the trim edging:

Then with screws and penny washers I install the mud flaps. the rear mudflaps needed to be trimmed a bit, but the fronts fit as is:

A word of Caution, Make sure you do all your marks and measurements before raising the car. You will never get the car level again without driving it. I made this mistake from front to back, and my fronts are sitting about an inch higher. End result looks like this:

The fronts are super easy to install. There rears are a bit more pain do to the mounting surface is made of compound curves. We love the look and have already gotten lots of comments, everybody like the return to the roots.
As far as keeping the car cleaner? Still being evaluated, I installed Winter Blizzaks at the same time. Which kick up huge amounts of dirty water. But Unlike before we don't have mud on the car. The mist hitting the back window is much finer, and takes longer to blur in the rain. But the dirtiness of the water is much worst. Again I feel this is a change in mud flaps and winter tires. not the mud flaps failing to keep it clean. The cars sides are noticeably cleaner.

Thats what I thought, but as I say, I have more on the back hatch then before, its finer particles but the back is visibly dirtier. But I feel this is from the winter tires not from the mud flaps.
Just stumbled across this thread and loved the idea as it is similar to the direction that I am going with my R53. I already have the mudflaps (autozone speacial) the spoiler is a stock R53 spoiler modified by myself. Stock cooper s lower fog lights. Also has a custom front strut brace, Alta CAI, Alta IC diverter, 15% SC pulley and a one ball exhaust. I would like to get some OZ Leggendas, or Superturismos but am strapped for cash at this moment. These are some crappy pictures taken from my phone. Ill upload some new ones soon. Nice looking cars you all have built. Look foreward to seeing the future mods in this group.

Aero Drag
Ah, not entirely. Wider tires can cause more drag, the opening in the hood for an S requires the air to be pushed through and then bounce around in the engine compt and even the intercooler may have a tiny part to play in this drama. All of these are probably miniscule alone but could account for 0.01 to 0.02 when combined. Personally, I would take an 0.05 penalty any day for the extra fun of the turbo. Lock n load ........ !!!!!!!!!
some interesting reading for you

The non-s has a lower drag effiecent then the S model. And there is only one thing that would cause worse drag coffecient and that is downforce from a spoiler.
