Engine breather hose delete?

I'm looking to clean up my engine bay a little, and I would like to delete that hose going from the top of the motor to the intake and put a small filter in its place. I know it connects to the intake past the MAF, and I know there is a sensor there. I tried searching the forum but found nothing, my question is: has anybody actually done this? What is that sensor? Will disconnecting that hose from the intake cause a CEL?

The sensor is actually a heating element for de-icing of any frozen water condensation from the PCV system.
Not many have removed that hose because it's sucking out oil vapor from the valve cover when the engine is under boosting conditions.

leave it. If you want to clean up your engine bay then paint the hose...or literally clean your engine bay
