Red Lights on Overhead Panel

I hope someone can answer this because I can't find anything about it in the owners manual.

I just purchased a '09 Mini and I still haven't learned all of the features so if this sounds stupid I apologize. On the overhead panel, where the interior light switches are, I have two tiny red lights that are lit up. They are on the right and left and closest to the driver not the windshield. Does anyone know what these are?

Thanks!

They are the "ambient lighting" and are also in the door panels. You get your choice of 4 colors and you can change the color with toggle 4 (from the left) push or pull it and you will see it change. Best done in the dark since it is subtle...especially the door panel lights.

I would have much more preferred they put their energy letting us change the lighting of the dash. Mood lighting is a bit chav.

Or perhaps you just could actually read the owners manual? It's even available online in the www.miniusa.com owners lounge...

Is there a way to turn off the ambient lights during the day?

I gather you turn on your headlights during the day? Just asking because the ambient lights come on with the other lighting, and I don't know of a way to turn off just the ambients. That said, they're dim enough in daylight they should hardly be noticeable.

No, headlights are off during the day and all the ambient lights are still on.
