R56 Cam chain tensioner change overview
Cam chain tensioner change overview
I know someone last week or the week before posted on the whole procedure on this but I just did it myself and thought i would add my two cents. So I changed my cam chain tensioner because I had a mildly annoying ticking noise and sounded just like my zx6r. So I order the tensioner and the gasket... Btw don't buy the washer gasket, it comes with it. Oh well $1.54 down the drain lol. After reading the other persons post I thought it would be a very simple task. IT WAS.
Took off the intake, removed that small piece of IC piping and there it is (you preferably need a long extension with a swivel with a 7mm socket). Took a 27mm socket on a half inch ratchet and it came out with ease. Now the other
Poster said putting the new one in is a pain to push and turn so I tried one time and gave up. Put the socket on my air ratchet and took less than 10 seconds to get it completely in. It's much easier to just push than turn in push. Torqued it to 65NM hopefully the other thread was right lol. And now my noise is much much less. It's still there but it's 10x. Better and less embarrassing.
This all took me 50 minutes. So if you have some skill do not be afraid to try this =]. PS 10 minutes of it was finding the old thread with my slow Internet to find the torque spec

Just got my '07MCS back from the dealer. Had the chain, tensioner, and rails replaced under warranty. Seems the early model chains had a quality control problem, so when they stretch and start to make noise by hitting things, like the under side of the top cover, the warranty should cover replacement. Mini's Roadside Assistance even covered the towing charges from my home to the nearest dealer - about 150 miles.
So, if you still have noise from the chain area, I suggest you visit the dealer and ask about warranty repairs.
