R56 Might have to sell Oscar...
Why do there have to be sooo many cool cars
Like you if only I had the money and a parking garage I'd have one of everything. But since that isn't the case, yet
I'll be happy with my MINI. FWIW, I bought my MINI because it does so many things well. Kind of like the difference between having to set of knives and tools in your back pocket or just having a swiss army knife. I find my "daily" life style favors the more swiss army style car. Sure the Cayman is ridiculously gorgeous and a marvel of German car engineering, but it really is a weekend car in most cases.
Look at it this way, if you don't buy it you have another $700/month to put aside for when it comes time to really retire Oscar...think MCS 2013, or MINI Cooper Coupe, or one of the dozen other pristine Caymans/Boxster Spyders that will come across your path in the future...and the price will just keep dropping. Heck it isn't uncommon to come across a 5 year old Cayman/Boxster with <40k on the clock.
If nothing else Look Zebra

Not to mention there are some other MINI's in the pipeline that will be coming out that look pretty damn good. And we all know that MINI's get along better with other MINI's.
Mark, what else do you have for cars?

I recently (within the last few weeks) got rid of my 1996 S-10 stepside. I did a custom paintjob on it, the back half was tubbed, full funny car race cage with a supercharged 468 cu. in. engine in it.
My H2 is lifted and recently installed a Duramax 6.6 litre diesel putting out 520 HP, 930 FT. Lbs. of torque.
A custom Harley I’ve been building for 2 years. The ONLY thing that is stock on it is the engine, the rest is completely custom right down to the air suspension, 300mm back tire and digital gauges all in the mirrors.
Completely made over Polaris Rzr.
Modified 1984 El Camino. (I purchased this for my father because he loved this bodystyle. I went through the entire car, shaved so much stuff off of it and by the time I got it done, he passed away) So I “have it” but not my choice of cars.
My wife’s custom painted pink Jeep
Her built by me Harley sportster, complete with pearl pink with white pearl flames and diamond studs throughout the paint.
blah, blah, blah... trailers, 4 wheelers, all this “stuff” is on my insurance and with my 16 y/0 getting ready to get her a car, I’ll have yet another “something” on the policy. (I’m actually in the process of buying a Volkswagon Golf convertible and painting it pink for her)
Too much stuff, I’m just glad we got rid of all the jetskis and other numerous vehicles around.
I received a new tune two nights ago from Alta and it’s so impressive, I know it’ll make the mini outrun the Porsche. Like you said, if I wait, something better will come along at a later date possibly.

Oh man I commented on this yesterday, must not of went through...
Mark-You said as you were leaving you spotted the Porsche, well as I was looking at your first picture of the yellow porsche I couldnt help my eyes wondering to the top of the picture where oscar sat.
IMO oscar is unique, custom, and your blood sweat and tears are in every part of that car.. and maybe im bias but i think your mini looks sooo much better than the porsche.

Right hand drive and all...

Put it this way, nobody will ever give the Porsche a second look. Oscar would draw a crowd anywhere. Nothing against the Porsche but Oscar is fabulous. Sell something else.
How much do you think I could sell my wife for?
Mark
Orangecrush, give a holler to WyvernMINI or now WyvernMotorsports They used to be big in the aftermarket mini community and have thus moved on to porches, if I was presented with your problem (which I wish I was
) They would most certainly be one of my first phone calls to help me prepare for what to expect. Check 'em out
and good luck with your decision.

Thanks all... I thought about it all weekend. I just can’t get rid of the mini yet. I REALLY loved the way the Porsche drove but honestly, the mini is setup to be faster and handle better right now. Stock for stock, no way.. the way mine sits now, yes way.
I think I’ll pass right now. I looked this weekend and found some 2008’s with as little as 100 miles... point is, I can buy a creampuff any time. It’s definitely not like there is a deficit of them floating around.
Does anyone find it funny how the smart ads always show up as when you are typing away? (check out the attached pic)
Thanks everyone, Oscar will just have to stay where he is. If I do buy a Porsche, it will be in addition to, not replacement of.

This is weird!! Look what I came across.
After reading Don’s suggestion, I started to google the Cayman R. (which btw, I wouldn’t give up AC and tunes for a slightly faster car...lol)
But one thing led to another and I came across this.
Wish it were in English.... the last minute of the video, well that has been played in real life many times on the track...lol.

I absolutely will own a Porsche one day........... but I will NOT buy one until I can afford the Porsche of all Porsche's, the 911 Turbo. I know we are talking apples and oranges, cayman vs. 911 Turbo, but I think if you are going to buy a Porsche, buy a 911 (GT2 and GT3 are also acceptable). BTW, Keep Oscar, that is one nice looking MINI and I can't imagine a better car to drive on a daily basis.
I have had LOTS of cars over the past 30 years and my 2006 Cayman S was the best ever, hands down. I've also owned four MINI's since 2005 including a couple while I had the Porsche, they are not the same in any way shape or form.
People who argue that "only 911's are real Porsches
" and "look up IMS/RMS/etc problems" are old school. The 987's have had excellent track records for reliability. Maintenance is expensive, but if you can find an independent or do things yourself, that issue is minimized. During the almost 3 years I had the car, I got fairly involved with the local chapter of the PCA.
There were basically two types there:
The enthusiasts-the guys who actually drove their cars hard from time to time, did track days and autocross, liked all things automotive. Never once heard one of those guys disparage a Cayman/Boxster. Many of them had owned 911's before or also, but recognized that the mid-engined cars are the most modern and well balanced.
The "wine and cheesers"-these were the dinosaurs who only drove air cooled Por-shas, never revved aboved 4500rpms, but dispensed their opinions like verity. We in the first group laughed at them.
In a perfect world, everyone should own a Porsche at least once in their life. I'm fickle so I sold it like everything before, but it's really the only car I've ever regretted getting rid of. I'm currently lined up to get an Audi TT-RS in the next few months. If it doesn't work out (mainly because pricing still isn't announced), I may well go back to the Cayman well again.
