2010 Weird fluid leak

Hi there

I have a 2010 MC with 9,000 miles. I have had the car since end of 2009.

My last 03 MCS JCW was lemond so I am very concerned.

Everytime I wash the car, and then drive it, this fluid can be seen. It is ONLY seen on the passenger side wheel arch.

There is no fluid on the garage floor.

I am not sure what it is. It is right under the turn signal light. I have lifted the bonnet but can't figure out the source.

I took some pics. Would appreciate your help, as car is still under full warranty.

Cosmoline is a homogenous mixture of oily and waxy long-chain, non-polar hydrocarbons. It can range in color from white to yellow and differ from one another in consistency and shear strength. Cosmoline melts at 113°-125° F and has a flashpoint of 365° F.

Try very hot water.

Thank you for the quick response. I appreciate it. Yes it is yellowish in color.

Where is it coming from?
How come its on one side only?

Yes if I use hot water, it goes away. But after a drive, it comes right back

Its used as a protectant during shipping. Buy some "Cosmonot" from a prima dealer like Detailersdomain.com or Richard at Octane Guy. Itll take that stuff off.

PS clean your engine bay and plastic cowl... Have some decency!

Lol jk

but for real...

If its not cosmoline which is yellowish it could just be dirty water from the underside of the hood draining down

After washing your car, open the hood and look for the source.

From the location, I'd say you are leaking blinker fluid!

So is cosmoline something on the car from the factory?

My 03 MCS didn't have it.

It is from the factory; it keeps the salty air from getting to the finish during the overseas shipping.

Some dealers are particularly good at making sure it all gets off. Some are not. In warmer weather you see it more, as it melts and leaks out of places (especially inside the bonnet).

Not a big deal...keep cleaning it up, eventually it'll stop. Or call your dealer and insist they do a better job of removing it!

Thank you. I appreciate the info. No need to go do the dealer, if it isn't a big deal.

thats just moisture running out.

like when you park outside over night...theres a thin layer of water and as you drive the wind blows it off creating lines of water.

This is definitely Cosmoline. It looks just like that. I have it on my 2010. I bought some remover and it helped.

I'm pretty sure the Cosmoline gets inside the bonnet, in the hollow areas. When the car heats up it leaks out of that area in your photo, and sometimes near the grille.

Yeah mine is only in that area. Never comes to the grille or drivers side.

As other have said, it's just cosmoline. Check the underside of your doors, you will probably see a LOT of it there. Prima CosmoNot is the best and easiest way to remove it for good. You also want to treat it ASAP as it tends to deform the plastic. Although the dealer will replace the arches under warranty, but not usually for atleast a year to allow it to continue to drip.
