Just wondering if you have the vin # of a car, is it possible to find out what options it has? My guess is no. If not, is there any other way to find out the options are on a car without the original paperwork? The reason I ask is I am looking to buy and a lot of on line ads don't really have the options listed (ie packages, etc) but they show the vin #. I'd like to know exactly what options are on the car without have to call on every car. Not to mentions some of the sales people are not even sure what the car has on it. Thanks.

 

You can call the dealer and ask, I know they will for owners of the vehicle, I'm not sure if they will for prospective buyers; I think the move toward VINs nowadays is more to show off the carfax reports.

 

I don't think so. Even though the VIN is a long number, it can't possibly contain all the potential variants when it comes to all the options offered by MINI.

 

The dealer can pull the info no problem. The VIN does not necessarily contain all the option info but entering it into the system can pull up the build list.

Some VINs are better than others at letting you know what the car is. When I working for a Dodge dealer near me I could tell you what model, main package, engine and body type ie quad cab, long wheelbase van etc just from a VIN.
