Oddest thing about my MCS. Page 128 of the owners manual clearly shows wo marks on the red plastic at the end of the dipstick, one for min and one for max. However the dipstick on my mini has no such marks, the red plastic thingie has no such marks. That normal ?????

At least we still have a dipstick to gripe about unlike some BMW products!

I have been driving British sports cars like MG's and Triumphs since the early 1970's - The discussion about quirks back then was much more serious, usually centered on something Lucas, and much more serious than a hard to read dipstick!
No kidding... but ironically, while my MG may have plenty of quirks and "personality," its dipstick is very easy to read.

Has anyone cut off the orange plastic to see whats under it. I wonder if it would be any easier to read without it. ???
Craven Speed would sell a ton of dipsticks at $30.

I posted this in another thread but figure I might as well post it here too, i hope it helps somebody.

Note: This may only work if you have HIDs

Check your oil at night! With the headlights on, hold the dipstick right in front of the headlight and the oil mark is as clear as day. The same dipstick viewed under sunlight/indoors is almost completely un-readable.
