R56 A few changes I've noticed on my 2011

This shows nearly every angle on what is normally the Y pipe. My pipe is a simple straight thru piece, hard plastic, and it does have a white part number sticker on it but it's literally so faded I can't see what it says.
Either way, no noisemaker.
In my experience, this is true... however, I was the first to bring it up and anyone who has commented on it has stated that their 2011 DOES have the noisemaker.
After reading a thread about the noisemaker a while back, I realized that a lot of people have no clue what it is and often get it confused with the BOV.
sure... it sounds broken most of the time. It has odd chirps and "putts", especially when warming up. My wife has a '10 VW Golf and it sounds awful when she starts it, like there is a muted exhaust leak. Just the nature of the motor I guess. Aluminum certainly doesn't cover up internal combustion the way iron does.
Thanks all for the advice on the ambient lights. I, actually adjusted them tonight before coming to work. Hey, I felt for the first time like I knew what I was doing.
I, also was paying attention to the exhaust note too. I don't think that the sound is coming from the engine compartment, like another JCW that I've ridden in has. Maybe they did eliminate the exhaust noisemaker.

I don't like the noise personally, but it usually only lasts for about a minute. I have traced the sound to the turbocharger, so the explanation in the TSB seems to be plausable.
2011 engine noise.
[quote=JAG33304;3248861]Yes I have noticed this on my 2011. If the noise you are referring to is like mine, it is a rattling type sound and only occurs on cold starts. I did find Mini TSB SIM 18 01 10 - which Mini is saying is "Normal" for the N18 engine and due to the Turbocharger Wastegate staying fully open on cold start up. (See this link to download the TSB http://www.mediafire.com/?2xqyvmem5bb6fwt)
From Hemisedan: Actually, and I don't know if it is just that mine is a JCW, but Lil Guys motor is pretty quiet when first started up, but as it warms up, it gets louder and the sound is more of power, rather than noise. That's when the burble really starts to sound too. Didn't know if I'd like that or not, but the more that I hear it the more I like the sound.

Nope I'm not talking about rattling. I'm talking about the engine just sounding loud.
There are various graphics available to put on the sunroof (I think the Clubman has the same sunroof as the hatch). There are also aftermarket sunshade things available to block off the sunroof if the gauze screen isn't enough - see http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop..._sunshade.html..

I also get quite a bit of squeaking from the engine especially on a cold start - I'm guessing it's the wastegate too
. Definitely only started around 1000 miles.
I'm guessing some tolerance slop somewhere under the car (exhaust?) that silences when things expand.
Mine is very quiet upon start up. I actually have had to turn off the sound system to hear if it was running. My '06 was nowhere near as quiet, but part of that is due to the cabin itself being much more sound proofed IMHO.

yay i think they are just nit picking lol
Plus, folks are overly squeamish given the history of the well documented cold start death rattle in the N14 engine and (as many of us predicted almost three years ago) the recent increase in posts describing the self-destruction of N14 engines in higher mileage, post-warranty vehicles.
I know my senses are acutely hyper-tuned to every little noise, smell, etc. coming out of my N18. I imagine I'm susceptible to an over-reaction too.
May our benevolent Maker spare us '11 owners for eternity from any N18-related posts in this thread.
Sorry to get a bit OT...

im wondering.. didnt they check there cold starts at the dealer?
When I had the dealer check out the noise when it was in last week both the tech and SA said it was the normal noise when the waste gate is open. It is very loud for the first 1-2 min when starting cold.
It also has an almost metallic rattle to it.

My car is at the dealer right now because of a minor issue with the radio. The display seems to get stuck and won't change even though the songs on the iPod are changing. I asked the service person about the engine being loud upon start up and getting lower and he said it was fine.
