New MINI order tracking

My dealer told me that my JCW is slated for Dec 9th production but the order tracking system in the owners lounge still just shows "on order". Is that normal?

Yes. The order tracking system in the owners lounge does not usually provide the most up-to-date information.

You will probably have better luck calling the 1-866-ASK-MINI number and using either the automated voice prompt system or even speaking to a MINI USA representative. They will be able to provide you more detailed infomation (e.g. your car is in the paint shop) and possibly more up-to-date.

If at all possible, speak with the live representative if you call ASK-MINI. The automated info can sometimes be out-of date, although not as bad as the OL. The live reps are available weekdays 9 AM - 9 PM Eastern time.

I got a little more detail when I called and got a live person. Apparently my MINI began production on December 1st and will finish on the 9th.

So how long does the trip across the pond take? I figure probably about 5 days for land transit. I wonder how much my port installed JCW aero kit will slow things down?

It depends to which port your MINI goes to, but for example:
My MINI's POE is Baltimore and that can take anywhere from 9-14 days.

To find out which POE your MINI goes to, ask your dealer or check any 2011 MINI's window sticker at your dealer and on the bottom it will say to which port it came to.

Currently tracking the ship that will be picking up my Mini JCW on Weds headed for CA. Ship tracking is pretty cool. I can now track ships coming past my house. Pretty cool.

A Las Vegas, NV MINI will go the West Coast VDC in Ventura. Boat trip takes 24/25 days depending on stops.

Once the VDC releases you should be only 1 day until it gets to your dealer and then the dealer does his/her thing.

Congratulations.

My port is NYC, so hope to make it on the Fidelio on the 8th. Then it would get to Port on 17th, then truck up to Buffalo NY. Towne MINI. Im thinking pick up around 28th. Granted it makes the boat on the 8th. Would like to have before Jan 3rd due to deals.

I just have to ask what is the point of the online order tracking system? It's not even remotely up to date. It still shows my MINI as ordered. I'm thinking there is a excellent chance that the darn thing won't be updated until I've taken delivery.

At least there is ASKMINI, but still, why have dealers advertise this service if it doesn't function.

BigRipper I don't understand what the big deal is...once your MINI is finished Production (Dec. 9th, 2 Days away) that jumping up and down MAD Smiley will turn into a "Come to Papa" GRIN...I guarantee it!!

His point is still valid, though - it seems dumb that they have a "tracking" feature up on their site that doesn't work at all... Particularly when the information is available on other computer systems. If you're going to have the feature, make it work (by connecting it to the same source(s) of information that MINIUSA and/or the MAs use), or remove it.

Returned To Shipper

Agreed on the online tracking system. My status is "Scheduled for Production". I called the Ask Mini number and found it it is complete.

Went to the WW site to track it and it is supposed to be on the ship that left today.

The shippers status, however, is "RETURNED TO SHIPPER 09-12-2010 17:28:00". Below that, it has the vessel details. See attached.

What does this mean? Did it not make the boat?

I think the next one departs 22 Dec.

Customer Centre> Cargo Tracking > enter your VIN number as Cargo ID.

It should show you the vessel you are scheduled to be on.

You can go here and enter origin and destination ports to see schedule of ships on that route, as attached:

Here's the schedule of the ship that departed today:

I don't know. I've only tried the full VIN on the shipping company site. Found the full VIN on the Mini OL.
