Helping a friend buy a MINI - Advice?
So, I haven't been on the forum for quite some time...had to sell my MINI for a larger family car. But I'm still a huge MINI fan and can't help but sing their praise anytime I can! I hope one day that I'm able to afford a 3rd car to get a MINI back in my garage!
A friend of mine sent me a link to a 2007 MINI Cooper with 25K miles on it for just under $13K from a broker in Minnesota. The reason the price is so low is because it has been smoked in, it has a fair amount of paint chips on the bonnet, a ding on the rear bumper, and "it was returned in California under the Lemon Law." They made it sound like it wasn't a big deal, but the engine was replaced and is under a bumper to bumper warranty until 10-1-2011.
I guess I'm just looking for some advice...is this something that should be walked away from immediately? If I have the VIN, can anyone help get more to the story? Maybe a dealer out there that can view/verify the work that was done on it? Here is the VIN: WMWMF33577TU60562
Here is a link to the sale: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/in...5&cardist=6381
I would really apprecaite any advice you could offer.

Looking at the add I can tell u that it does NOT have leather interior. That is the leatherette. So false advertisement on dealer's part. It also does not have the rear fog light so u don't get the extra toggle switch on the dash. Also does not have multi-function steering wheel so no cruise control. The wheels are the standard cheap ones. No auto climate control either. Warranty only till 2011. Contrary to what the dealer says, this is not well optioned and i wouldn't walk away, i would RUN!!!!!!!
I also have to wonder which stereo is in it. The only picture showing the a-pillar has the steering wheel hiding the part the tweeter would be in. IT does say it has the premium stereo but they said a few things that weren't correct.
You guys are exactly right, I've found that most non-MINI dealers have no idea what they're talking about when they sell MINI's so they just make stuff up.
My fond MINI memories are flooding back to me and I've spent a better part of the night looking at MINI's for sale in my area and dreaming of a way to get one in my garage. Oh how I miss "Homestar"!
