This is my first Turbo but I'm not worried about it, doesnt look too hard to replace (I do all/most car work myself). My wife bought our 07 MCS within 6 months of my 08 Prius purchase, I think its funny that someone compared the two. I love my Prius and drive it 33k miles a year but I am hanging out here and always reconsider if I should have purchased a clubman instead. ANyhow, the Prius is WAAAAAAAAAY slower, and WAAAAAAAY lamer in the cornering department but it carries more stuff and is cheaper to maintain (let the battery arguments begin!).

No complaints with the Prius. I have a 2010 that I bought last year new. It's been about 13 months with 42,000 miles on it and the mpg are wonderful. I drive it to work everyday because I can go the HOV lane alone. I would die sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in my MINI 6 speed. I got the 100,000 6 year full toyota warranty but from what I understand they are durable. All I do is oil changes. It does handles like a boat wallowing on turns.

All Road as our second car

If you're worried about mechanical failures, then never keep a car past its manufacturer's warranty or get an extended warranty and/or don't mod.

Hey 'TheLex' we have a MINI and an Allroad in the family too. Ours is a 2004 and it's great all around car. I can't figure out if it's a station wagon, an SUV, a luxury car, a performance car, or all of the above.

I seriously considered a Cooper S before I bought my justa. The run flat tires and the lack of a spare turned the tide and steered me away from the S. The styling on the S is form over function. The exhaust could easily be rerouted to make room for a spare and allow for factory fitment of real performance rubber. The warp prone hood scoop is pretty but non functioning, pure bling.

MC vs MCS vs JCW

To each his own. That's why there are different engine/performance options for the MINIs.

As long as you are happy with your ride, that's all that counts.

I actually like the hood lines better on the justa cooper, but love the performace of the JCW. The S is somewhere in between for me.

Thanks for the you-tube of the Pious running auto-x. Funniest thing I've seen in a while. From everyone I've spoken to, they have all the cornering prowess of a '70 Dodge Dart.

My '07 MCS seems to be ticking along nicely @ 38k. No mods. Did have timing chain tensioner and hood scoop replaced under warranty. Hood scoop issue may be related to climate, very difficult to keep the engine compartment cool in 100-plus temps, even if you are not revving the car to death.
Cheers.

Can't agree more.Any car that takes abuse will eventually have problems, Turbo included. As most posters here have stated, change oil,air filter, and any other part sooner than Mini recommends. And most of all don't abuse the hell out of it all the time you'll get so many more trouble free miles out of it trust me your Mini will love you for it.

+1

in the MCS the engine compression is reduced to handle the increased boost from a turbo. If you drive a turbo car and can stay off out of the boost, you can actually get better gas mileage than it's naturally aspired counterpart.

So, if you constantly beat on the Cooper engine to keep up with your friend who has the MCS, you probably will wear out that engine faster than someone who drives the MCS sanely.

It all depends...
