MINI towing - Hitch question

Hey all. I will be picking up my 2008 MC-S this Friday and am looking to buy a hitch for it. I found the MiniDoMore website and saw they are running a deal for NAM members. Then I saw a post about Curt hitches and how they are cheaper in cost (but apparently a copy of MDM).

What leads me to this post is I noticed the Curt Hitch is rated to 2,000lb and the MiniDoMore hitch is rated at 1400lb. My plans are to purchase a two motorcycle trailer and tow two bikes on road trips and to the track(max weight of 500lb each). So with everything on the trailer I may be pushing the limits of the "stated weight capacity" of the MDM hitch (I know they can handle much more).

Should I go with the Curt for the higher load rating? Are there any reasons not to? Or should I not be towing two bikes with a MINI Thanks!

P.S. if there is an archived post regarding this issue that I may have overlooked during my search please link me to it.

Hey, did you get either of the hitches? I am going to have to get something also, since I traded my truck for my MINI. If you got either one, what did you think of it and how was it to install?

I don't know about the tow limit for a Mini, but am no stranger to towing. IMHO, either hitch will tow far more than should be pulled behind a Mini. 1400 pounds is over half the tow vehicle weight and tounge weight also needs to be factored. If it were me I would reconsider the weight. At the very least invest in a trailer with brakes and a good controller.
YMMV Good luck.

Hitch manufacturers like Curt tend to give ratings for the hitch itself rather than the vehicle, and often you will find buried away in the paperwork something along the lines of "do not exceed the manufacturer's rating for your vehicle".

I really doubt there is any difference except that maybe MDM is being more honest.

Does anyone know the shank size for the 1 7/8" ball on the MiniDoMore draw bar?

I need to get a 2" ball and all of the shanks on the readily available 2" ***** are too big.
