service interval reset

I have an 07 MCS coupe and have tried using the other posted notes on resetting the service count down on the odometer. None have worked. My car now has 68,000 miles and I have been doing the maintenance since the intial maintenance plan expired. I have done the oil changes and the brake flush. I tried the reset procedure and still each time I start the car, I keep seeing a negative number of miles to the next service. Right now it is at -8000. I have a key fob and don't know if that makes a difference. Any ideas other then a trip to a dealer?
Thanks

Peake makes a code reader for the R53 that can reset all the warning messages, but I haven't seen one for the R56 yet.

Read this: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...procedure.html

The engine service interval reset is in the same menu.

I just tried this and it worked great, THANKS!!! I've been driving -4300 miles on my service indicator only because I changed my oil and wasn't going to pay the dealer $50 to reset the indicator.

The service indicator light is for more than an oil change. IIRC, it includes brake fluid flush, filters, and other things. If you are still under the maintenance program, you don't want to reset the service light. If you are beyond it, but still under warranty, make sure you have records to show that performed all required services.

This may sound silly, but I got a letter about routine maintenance for my Mini and called the dealer to ask about it. They told me the service light would light up when I should bring in my car. Well...I don't know what that would look like and my car is low mileage (<10K miles and I've had it a year and a half). It's not like my old car where I would go in every 3 months for oil and every other oil change to rotate my tires.

Does anyone know when I would expect to see the light or what it would look like?

All apologies if I'm off topic!

You should have had an oil change after one year. This is part of the free maintenance program. You should insist on this from your dealer, or go to a better dealer. The service light is for more than an oil change. You can find more info on it in your owners manual.

When you start the car, a date and mileage appear on the tach for a short time. This is the date of your next service, and mileage until next service.

Most of us think that first oil change should be done much earlier than MINI suggests. I did mine at around 1,600 miles.

I did the oil change after a year (back in June) and the service department was just awful to me. It was the one weekend I was in town and I was 1 or 2 days ahead of the 1 year mark. They cancelled the appointment and sent me home after making me wait in line for half an hour. I try to avoid the service people as much as possible at Mini of Dallas.

Also, do you have to go to the Mini dealer for service after your service plan is up or are there other places that work on Mini's?

Thanks for all your help!

There are other places that work on MINIs.

Not sure what effect it would have on warranty.

Other than the inconvenience of going to the dealer to get the service indicator reset, why should they charge $50 for something that should come under "free scheduled maintenance", even if you did change the oil yourself ?
