Another bump from behind...

2007 MINI was a month old when a female college student rear ended us. I was sitting at a light, last car in line. I watched her talking on her cell phone and looking at Olsen Field for the last 3 seconds before impact. Percy was dinked pretty good, but repaired easy. Her car got the short end of the stick. I was impressed.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. Wife is sitting at a red light on the edge of town. High school senior in a friends truck skids while stopping and nicks the back driver's side, right at the corner. Rubs some paint off the bumper, damages the wheel fairing and leaves a nice dent right where the bumper and side panel meet. Everybody is OK, cops cite him for failure to control and his insurance is handling it nicely. Little bump, sad but "it happens".

Got the tires changed this weekend. I had a alignment done in Oct, opt to get it checked again after the bump. Boy am I glad I did.
Rear camber and toe out on back left. 45 minutes after starting, the mechanic comes out and tells me he can't get the left rear in specs. -1.3 called for, all he can get is -1.1 max. Something must be bent.

I called the adjuster and told him about it. Told him I had the print out from the shop showing the out of spec issue. "No problem. Please leave a copy with the body shop when we drop it off. It should help them with the work. Sorry, damage like that is hard to see, but glad we know about it now."

I am impressed with the adjuster's attitude. Glad I got the alignment checked.

It only isn't with young people either. I'm 20 years old and my mini got rear ended 2 weeks ago. It was an older man probably in his late 40s, who wasn't paying attention and hit my bumper right before I was going to make a right turn at the light. He tried to blame me for the accident and tried to get me to not call my insurance about it.

My car got fixed, but wasn't happy for 2 days driving the rental.

Glad to hear all repairs have been handled with honesty by the insurers. Always wonder how much resale value has been affected by such incidents.
