Maybe a con...can it work with the Tuscan leather interior? That's the build I'm considering...

If you store it outdoors, a black car will have less corrosion issues.

The 'morning dew' will be gone in a lot less time than it would in a light color car.

The moisture from condensation will reduce the life of any car and it will be worse if any salts are present.

(P.S. If your going Black, then black roof/mirrors will look best.)

I'm a glutton for punishment I guess, had a black Audi A3, black Cayman S, and Astro Black MINI. I'm done, for all of the reasons stated already about upkeep and longterm prognosis. I was recently tempted by a CPO'd Porsche 911, clean inside and out, drove great, etc....but parked next to a brand new black Cayman on the lot its 3 year old black paint had noticeably lost its luster. Weirdly, black is considered a "safe" color on Porsches for resale but I won't own any black car again.

I love my black car. But, it takes a big commitment to keep it always looking good. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer, but I deal with it.

Black with a white top and mirror caps with white stripse would look sweet.

Where do you go that only charges $20/month. I'll sign up for that service.

Recent data in the UK has confirmed this - something like a 10% higher chance of a collision in a black car.

The other curious piece of data from the same study was that, as well as being more likely to be involved in a collision, the average severity of collision is higher for black cars.

Like mine:

I want to do center stripes instead of the ones I have...like Scuderia stripes on the 430 Scuderia. Thinking of getting white wheels to complete the whole white/black theme...

I must say though, I get jealous of all you Midnight Black owners. Looks so much better than Astro. And even more jealous of R53 owners who got to have Jet Black....like longboard.

If you don't see it as soon as you would a lighter car, you will not break as soon. That could lead to greater severity. Makes sense to me.

I love my Astro Black. Its black, but yet not black. So it kind of has benefits of both. Since its so metallic, it hides imperfections a bit better than jet black. This is the first black car I've owned and honestly I think the whole "black is impossible to keep clean" is blown way out of proportion. I wash my car every 2 weeks and it looks great for the first ~10 days. I get so many compliments and comments on my color all the time. I never did when I had a white and silver car.

I think the pros outweigh the cons. Black looks sexy, classy, sporty, and beautiful. It shows off the lines of the car the best, where as silver or white tend to blend in and not show off the cars aesthetics as well.

FWIW, my only car accident was when I had a silver car. I'm not going to let a minor statistic impact the decision my car color. If an accident is going to happen, its going to happen no matter what color your car is. My lights are on at night... people can see me. The MINI is a safe car.

MINI & lines=oxymoron. The MINI is actually an anti-line car and that's part of the unique look. Also black isn't the best color for showing car lines (especially in traffic). Colors like bright red and yellow do a much better job.

Now here is a car with lines and the color to show them.

Hahaha, own a true black car and your opinion of that will change

Astro Black is very easy to keep clean in my opinion, almost as easy as a charcoal grey. Having owned a Jet black car before...I can tell you, the second after you dry it, your head will start spinning cuz theres dust already all over it. But with the astro, like you said, I can go days and it still looks almost as good as it did when I washed it last.

Depends on your priorities and taste. Some would put the 10% greater chance of getting hit, and the higher severity if hit, at a higher priority than aesthetics. A teenager who thinks he/she is immortal will put sexy as a much higher priority.

It shows off the lines of the car the best, where as silver or white tend to blend in and not show off the cars aesthetics as well.

I think the photo below proves Julien's point. Black is not a good color for showing shape. Silver actually shows shape much better. Watched a show on the Tokyo Auto Show (from a few years ago) many of the cars there were silver to show off the sculpted lines of the car.

I agree that silver flows the lines much better that black (though it's not my favorite color). Also you will rarely see a black car at a (new) car show for this reason. Also because while black looks great by itself it gets lost in a group so it's not a good color choice for a crowded car show.

Here is a simi-comparison of lines in black to red and the difference is clear.

I love my astro black, but I'm also not completely **** about having a clean car. Yes, it gets dusty very quickly (especially the rear)...but whatever. I have better things to do then keep my car spotless every day.

Keep the inside cool by tinting the windows. Works fine here and we approach 100 degree days in summer. My car is all black inside and out. No biggie.

eh, I guess Although I'm not technically a teenager, I still feel immortal (22 yrs old)

just a side note, I was driving in heavy fog this morning and all the silver cars were completely camouflaged. It made me thing of this thread. Luckily MINIs come with fogs

According to Tolkien, one doesn't come of age until they are 33.
