Pssst...always consider a used one. Much better investment since cars are bad investments in general.

If you only have one Mini dealer in your area, tell them that you're looking at a used '08 Mini with low miles and pull the specs of one off Autotrader in your area for one seriously cheaper. Use that as leverage to get the new one down in price if you insist on new. But be prepared to walk away and wait a day or two.

The dealer's job is to make it look like they are in control. They're not. You're in 100% control since they need to sell, and you can buy from a variety of sources.

Ya gotta want a "SPORTS CAR" if:

Hi Closer88,
You would have been better off getting a Clubman with the standard suspension. Go to your dealer and test drive one and maybe you can make a better deal then the BMW. They should have one on the lot that you would like.
The Sport suspension it just what it says it is. It is for extreme performance and of course it will ride very harsh.
Let us all know the results when you make your change.

Sterling Mini does offer discounts on in-stock vehicles. They had a special sale in March/early April where I was able to purchase my MCSa for $2500 off. More recently they were selling vehicles without freight charges.

I know they are reluctant to discount ordered vehicles.

If you're looking for a used one and willing to look hard (and be somewhat trusting) you can look around on the Internet. I looked on Autotrader and Ebay just for pricing ideas. Eventually ended up getting mine from a SAAB dealer up in Boston. Mini of Townson couldn't touch the price. For what I got, they were asking $7-9k more for the exact same car. Even with $200 in plane tickets and gas to drive back I made out like a bandit.

No MINI dealer will come close to non-MINI dealers. Non-MINI dealers don't think "these little cars have incredible resale value, lets get every dime we can from them." They usually think more along the lines of, "lets get these things off the lot while still turning some profit."

That was the general attitude of everyone I talked to while doing research trying to find a Mini. The thing I also found is if you're patient eventually one will turn up somewhere that is exactly what you're looking for. It took close to 4 months to find mine but it is absolutely perfect!

Sweet, post pics! I'm right up in PA and it's no better here; been overcast and raining for days. Going to have to build an ark soon.

See what I can do. Never was good at posting pics. Have to try to get the kids to help.

I really like the horizon blue. Looks different depending on the light. Got some goodies in it Sport, cold weather and premium package. Fog lights front and back, limited slip and sports suspension and hifi-bluetooth-ipod too!

Dealers lots aren't a packed with as many cars as they used to be. The frequent discounts people were getting for awhile are getting much scarcer.

And there is only one MINI dealership in Denver so theres no goin to another one!

Bah hahaha!!!
Don't be scared. If they let you walk, then you know when you go back in--after you've thougt it over--that you're getting the lowest deal they're prepaired to give. They'll still gladly take your money of your hands, no need to be sheepish. Life is full of tests.
