How durable are the R56 black driving lights?

I am wondering about the paint. Scratches, etc. Also, when removing the covers.... do they scratch easily.

Thanks.

I have them on my MC. The covers are a pain in the @ss to take off. I kept putting them on and taking them off for a month then I said: "Screw this!" I have the covers in my garage somewhere. I bought some "lens protection" from outmotoring. I bought the foglight lens protection (perfect fit for the driving lights) and installed it in about 10mintues. This will protect the aux driving lights from stones. I put the lens protection on the fog lights as well, and although the convex nature of the fogs was difficult to deal with, and the results are not perfect... cracking a fog light will cost you about $300 to replace (I know this because I broke one from a rock on the highway my first week of ownership! It was a $400+ CND dollar fix!)

One time it was raining and I could NOT get the covers off. I thought I was going to tear the light right off the grill.

To my knowledge.. the black ones are not painted. They are black ABS plastic? The chrome ones on my MC have not scratched and I have had them on for about 9 months now. (they are chromed plastic)

Black ones are in fact Hard plastic, I installed them 6 or 8 months after I picked up the car( they didn't originally have the black ones in stock), haven't had any issues with scratching.............I don't use the covers, tried them on once but they were a bit tight, so I opted not to install them..............

Interesting that they are plastic. I would have thought they were metal like the chrome ones. You'd think they might be cheaper than metal but I guess that's not the way things work in MINI land! I have black metal PIAA lamps and they haven't scratched at all. The protective covering is an interesting idea since I never have the covers on.
