That is good to know because I have a chip in my window that was fixed but I was concern if the crack started to grow I would have to fix it out of my own pocket.

I thought I saw other posts stating that windshield and tires were owner's responsibility.

It will be your responsibilty. In both of my cases, there were NO MARKS to indicate stone chips. Had there been, there is no way they would have covered it.

Contact you insurance company. Often chips are repaired without a deductable.

Just change your insurance comprehensive deductible to $0 and never worry about the windshields again. It only cost me $17 more per year than my previous $250 comp deductible.

As for dealer-induced scratches, Mark, I need to find someone like you to repaint my door. The dealer scratched it (very small), did a decent touch-up and cut me a great deal on an ipod adapter. Then I later tried to improve it and really butchered it. It looks like it has a silver band-aid on it, but I am afraid to shell out the $$$ and have a two-toned repair job. Too bad you are several hours away.

I've had several guys in the corvette forum drive from Maryland to NC just for me to paint a hood and a set of ground effects on another one.

Take a drive to the beach and come visit for a day. I'll fix it for ya.

I am terrified to let a dealer have my car for the same reasons. I just don't understand why it's so hard to take good care of our cars. Little scratch to them, big deal to the owner.

Mark, Charlotte is only about 4 hours from here, so it would definitely be worth the drive over the mountain to get an excellent repair. I'll take a picture of the damaged area and pm you to see what you think. There is no dent, but my multiple attempts at improving their repair made it a deep scratch (down to e-coat, not metal).

Since this thread has apparently been revived, I never did finish what happened to my laser blue MCS.

I ended up painting just the fender. The match was perfect after many days of tinting and I was happy about it.

Once done, I had to take the car back to the dealership because when they scratched the fender, they gouged the rubber base of the mirror.... so I had to take it in to get the mirror replaced.

I dropped it off (two days ) and when I picked it up, I checked it out before I left and they had left a DENT in the right door right below the mirror.

Like I said, old news, I was so disgusted, I traded it in and bought an '09 JCW.

The ironic part of all this is within a week of owning my present JCW, the windshield cracked in the EXACT same spot. When I took the car into the dealership for them to replace the windshield, there really weren't any words needed to be said about how well they would take care of my car.

They did....

Man, you've had some bad luck guy. Hopefully you get better luck with the new JCW.

I hope so.... I had to replace the windshield during the first week. The second week I drove to FL. and when I went to leave back to NC, the fuel pump died. I had it in limp mode most of the way home.

Other than that, I've got 13K miles and no issues (other than losing a scuttle and having the airbag replaced because the vinyl starting peeling... very minor stuff)

So, so far, great.

It happened on my '08 MCS and my '09 JCW. Both windshields were replaced under warranty and I think for the first time, I didn't hear "really?? We've never seen that before"

Must be a common problem.

Mark
about the crack in the windshield, i have one very similar to yours. its right around the middle of the windshield, and goes up about four inches, and then goes left about three. i assume its a common thing.

The sad thing is of the two North Carolina dealerships this is the better one. After 14 service trips and 4 months in the shop between both dealerships, I traded my last MINI in. The new owner contacted me he is having the same problem with the car. The Digital Power Sound Module is sorting out, the Winston-Salem dealership installed that system before retail delivery. The last time they had it. It was in the shop for six weeks before I traded it in, they were still working on it. The new owner bought it at Jeep/ Chy. dealership in Va. took it to the Winston dealer for service and they did not want to work on the system. The warranty is transferable, and anyway it is extended when components are replaced, they replaced: amp, wiring, and tweeter crossover.

That is the reason why I drove 4 1/2 hours to Charleston Mini to get my Stage I kit installed. Charleston Mini is fantastic, the techs are excellent, the SA's return phone calls and I get better prices (ie. I bought my Stage I kit from them for 1330 bucks, my own local dealership with my 25% bodyshop discount wanted 1740 bucks )

You literally cannot get them to return phone calls or give updates. When I went to make an appt. to get them to replace my airbag (1/2 procedure AT TOPS) and replace a scuttle, it took them 3 1/2 days.

The lower part of the grille above the bumper wasn't "snapping" into place. The female part of the actual grille was getting worn. They told me it wasn't covered because I painted that trim piece. What does painting the outside of the trim piece have anything to do with it? I didn't get paint on the inside edge where it snaps in.

And when you go in there.... all you here is "5's and yes's, 5's and yes's" They expect you to put 5's and yes's for satisfaction on your survey.

Hell, I don't even fill out the surveys anymore because if I tell them what I really think, I'll never get an appt.

Looks like the letter "L", right? Yeah, it must be a defect in something because like I said, this is the first time I took my car in and I didn't get that "really, we've never heard of the sunroofs not opening correctly" deer in the headlights look.

Both times they replaced it and I hadn't had a problem since. On both cars I had done a track day the week before and was thinking it was from that.

Orangecrush,
I'm glad to see that there are body professionals out there that are as compulsive as you are.

Where did you get the RMW tune done?

Wow. First scratching and cutting, and then a new dent? I think that dealer may have a disgruntled employee in the shop ... who they should be looking for, because cr$& like that costs money for repairs and loses repeat customers.
