R56 Traction Control, mind of its own?
Traction Control, mind of its own?
ok so the other day i was cruising around. I came to a wide open strip of road and decided to let the r56 stretch its legs a little. Sport mode on, and DSC off.
Once i got up to about 70mph, i noticed the DSC triangle in the display flash, and then it turned itself back on. Normal? i would think if i turned it off, it should stay off until i turn it back on. I did notice the road i was going down was quite bumby, and torque steer was pretty bad, car started to make little jumps left and right.
So does this mean DSC can never really be turned off?

Hmm, that's odd behavior. I haven't had it come back on while autocrossing, and I've screwed up pretty bad . I know it will let you get totally sideways, go sideways on the other side, and back again without coming back on.
Maybe only what the computer sees as strange input triggers it. I have heard from the 2 national contenders in minis that frequent my region of going into "Ice Mode" when left foot breaking, but I have not experienced it myself w/o forgetting to take DSC off.

Okay, I looked it up again. Seems it works on BMW, but not on MINI. Personally, I have turned off DSC only when stuck in snow in my driveway.

I don't know how DSC/DTC works on the newer MINIs, but he has a 2007 Model. DSC should be off completely with a 1 second press of the button. It should not be flashing when it is off. Take it to the dealer, if you are still under warranty.
Might just need a reflash. DSC is not a two stage deal.
