I had purchased Mini's bike rack from Morristown Mini last week. The rack arrived but seemed incomplete. There's no owner's manual included so I have no idea if it's incomplete or if I'm just crazy. Either way, there's no cap on one of the ends of the tray itself, there's no instructions on how to mount it to the base roof rack, there's no obvious way to hold the wheels in place on the tray and no key was included when the arm on the bike rack seemed to be locked?

Am I nuts? Is this is another Mini feature that's non-user friendly to the unaccustomed? I've used multiple roof racks in the past and all have been intuitive. This does not seem so. What gives? I also have to add that the locking mechanism of the base roof rack is plain and utterly DUMB. I could have easily designed a more basic and simple system. ARGH! Should have gone aftermarket. -.-

 

Since you filed this thread under "General Mini Talk" could you tell us whether you have an 2nd gen R56/55 or a 1st gen R53/50? I ask because I have a R53 with OEM MINI roof rails and two bike racks and I haven't had any problems and I thought it was intuitive out of the box; however if you have a newer R56 the rack system is different. Mine definitely came with manuals (and it was a joy to read, there's a certain "jena se qua" to continental European English rather than American English). I'd probably contact Morristown to request those manuals.

 

Oh yea. 2nd gen R55. No roof rails, just the base rack system(which came with the manual). I'm not sure if the rack is 2nd gen though since it listed for all Coopers regardless of year.

 

If it is the one that looks like mine (check my gallery), then yes, it did come with a manual. I'd contact Morristown for a replacement manual.

 

Grrr. Just bought one from Prestige Mini via Ebay and had the same problem. No manual. Does anyone know of a place to find a manual online? I'm reasonably confident I can figure it out except for one piece.
