R56 Driving music; what are you listening to?
He drives a mini *and* listens to the new pornographers, someone has good taste
Being a Canadian, it's pretty cool to see some people south of the border listening to our bands! A few other awesome canadian bands you might want to check out if you haven't already are Metric, Wolf Parade and Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene (among others i'm forgetting at the moment).
Also, the lead singer from the new pornographers (A.C. Newman) has a great solo album called Slow Wonder that you might want to check out.
I guess that at least partially answers the question as to what's playing in my Mini as well

Custom MP3 mix (in no particular order); Beatles, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Randy Newman, Enya, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Boston, ABBA, James Mcmurtry, Country Joe & the Fish, Grateful Dead, Paul Simon, Jackson Brown, ELO, Rascals, David Bowie,
Robert Palmer, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, The Who, James Brown, Buckwheat Zydeco, Marc Cohn, Jesse Winchester,
Sweet, Simon & Garfunkel, Little Feat, Wet Willie, Moody Blues, Don McLean, America, Meatloaf, Roy Orbison, and many that I have surely overlooked. Some mix huh?
And I've given away my age not by what is included but what isn't.

Certainly possible, i remember a trip to Manhattan where i had a 2 dollar pizza slice with no toppings in some hole in the wall joint...one of the best slices i've ever had
The young'uns could learn a thing or two from those old and/or dead guys!

Last weekend we had the second annual running of the Italian Job Rally where we were each given a CD with sounds to match the shooting sites we were exploring. Nothing like cruising the upper ridge of Mulholland Drive with Randy Newman's I Love LA on the player.. brings it all to life.. especially on a really NICE clear day like we had..
I never was a big Iron Butterfly fan, but I did see Steppenwolf at the Fillmore East, back around 68 B.C.
Let's see... from a drive all night playlist:
Beat Pharmacy
Film School
Big Chief
Black Angels
Fela
Burns Out Bright
Dr. Alimantado
Funkadelic
Sons of Otis
Twilight Circus Dub
Loleatta Holloway
Prince Fatty
Jimi Hendrix
to name a few.

Right now, I have a CD full of covers.
Yes, I mean covers.. including such wonderousness as Johnny Cash singing "Personal Jesus". The Cure and their cover of "Purple Haze" which is truly psychedelic and KMFDM's iconic cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday".
It is awesome.

I'll admit that my ipod is mostly "oldies" from the 60's and 70's, but lately I've been having fun with the new itunes Genius feature.
If you haven't downloaded the update, go for it. Basically, you select a song from your music and hit the Genius button and it searches for other songs in your library to create a playlist. It's been pulling up songs that I haven't listened to in forever and the transitions from song to song are great and never out of character and jarring.
