Anyone know where the light source is for the mood lighting? Had an audio upgrade installed, but somehow they knocked out the blue light, possibly at the source, on the fiber optic... so only the orange shines right now (if I cup the exposed fiber to my eye, the blue just barely shines, so the source seems to be fine).

They're going to fix it, but thought if we knew where the light source was, we could quickly check to be sure it wasn't just an unplugged fiber connection, instead of tearing out the guts of the car all over again. Been Googling for days, and the dealership service dept. is unresponsive... argh.

I kind of think its just an array of LEDs at the point of which the light comes from but I could be wrong.

I'm kind of sad the LED light doesn't get that bright, the Blue is barly visible and what about green yellow and red? Those colors don't exist.

yep, you're correct... it's an array of two leds per. one blue and one mostly orange i guess. ultimately, there's a "foot unit" that controls the leds. one "side" of that unit had been shorted when replacing one of the door panel keepers after upgrading the speakers. it basically cut the leads to an led pair.

anyway, all's good now. it finally got repaired last week after waiting for a dealership appointment and of course, getting it fit into everyone's schedule. the audio install guys made sure it got fixed...

while i'm at it, here's a shout out to the safe & sound guys in manassas... they did a great job installing some aftermarket audio stuff in my jcw. they took care of the mood lighting blunder without a fuss, and the audio upgrade sounds 10 times better than the bmw nonsense. if you're in the nova area and looking for an integrator, they'd be worth checking out.

 

the mood lighting is very disappointing. I wish there was a way to turn off the dash lites, and keep the mood lites on, or, at least make them a bit brighter.
