Nah, if I was an a-hole I think I would be more inclined to come see what's under the cover and jack with it some more.....

That sucks, man. I'm sorry people are such a-holes! Get one of those game cameras, (game as in wild game; animals), from a hunting shop like Cabela's, Bass Pro or even Wal-Mart. They have a motion sensor that triggers the camera to take a picture when an animal (or human), crosses its' path.

Heh.... I don't think that would work.... The camera would snap and flash before the culprit would even have time to key the car!

This forum is invaluable! I didn't know lowering the deductible would be such a small impact on the total premium. I just called my insurance and reduced my comprehensive deductible from $1,000 to $100 (the lowest), and it only costs $18 more per vehicle/six-months. I lived with a cracked windshield on my 4Runner for 4 years, because I was too cheap to pay for a new windshield. Now I'm covered against flying rocks, door dings, mean and unsavory people for $100/incident!

Don't insurance companies cancel coverage or increase premiums after a few claims?

I wasn't parked weird or anything, I don't know anyone in this area... and I don't know what to do!!!

I'm sooooo angry. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?
Are you getting keyed in the same location? (maybe the same person?)
You need to keep good records of where and when it happens.

If you note that it definitely is in more than one area (not just at home or at work) then you need to find a better place to park that would be less prone to this problem.

Most people that do damage will keep visiting the same areas where they strike. Are other cars around you similarly damaged?

If the damage is done randomly then you need to find a way to be somewhere else that is of less risk. Is there any option for secured parking?

Repairs can be done but risk for getting keyed again is the problem.

Don't park in places that make others mad and disrespectful-
Park in more than one space
Park too close (front/back or sides) to other cars
Park in someone else's space
Park in no parking or illegal space
Park in a way to block a driveway or access
Double park

Could be any number of things that set someone off, but you've gotten the best advice here already, police, cam and move to a place with enclosed parking. Sorry the hear about your problem there is no excuse to key anyones car or destroy any property other than your own.

I am so sorry that this happened to you!!! Some people are just well- there are just no words to desribe how poorly some people can act. Definetely get the camera.
A few years back, my grandmother had purchased one of the first Lincoln Navigators in California. She lived in a beautful building, and the cars played the part. Weel this one unbelievably rude woman would constantly key her new truck just to be a b**ch. She was just jealous of granny's new ride (and this woman drove a Jaguar XJR!). Some people will do what they want, with no regard to anyone but themselves (Pretty common in Vegas, were I live...). Dont worry though, this WILL pass. Police involvement or not...

yeah... the only downside to the minis is that if you **** someone off, people can easily remember your car/color. compare this to a beat up pick up truck, who would care to remember?

considering my cooper is the the only blue mini (2 grey mc r53s, and a jcw r53) on campus i am very careful not to **** any townies/students off.

I don't think this is just a MINI problem. All you need is someone sick who likes to hurt people who have a nice paint job. Thanks to cameras they are getting caught more often. Watch this guy while he thinks no one is watching :

Notice he passes up the MINI and attacks the Hummer.

Is that a fuel filler door on the passenger side of the MINI ?

This is just too much, where is the sense in any of this?

On a Mini? not likely....

Around here it's usually teenagers who resent "rich kids." A friend of mine was sitting in his car when a 15 yo girl walked by and keyed his car - and got to explain why she did so to her parents.

In rarer occasions it an excessively territorial neighbor. Do you leave it there for days at a time? If so, it's probably the latter.

Yep, I'd be so pissed I couldn't see straight too...but this vigilante mentality is pretty scary coming from normally right-minded MINI-loving folk.

Just some rational food for thought: A homicide or attempted homicide may be considered justified in the U.S. if it is done to prevent a very serious crime, such as rape, armed robbery, or murder. The assailant's intent to commit one of these crimes must be clear at the time. A homicide performed out of vengeance, or retribution for action in the past, would generally not be considered justifiable.

So if you decide to butter that bread, be prepared to sleep in it. I recommend counting to ten and putting things in a bit broader perspective.

In that video of the guy keying the Hummer, he looks really mad at the vehicle, crazy! The wife had her last 2 cars keyed, different places, different times. It just makes you sick. Now we have the new Clubman, we just hold our breath; I worry about my Cooper too. They just seem like magnets. There is no way I would put a political sticker on my car; that's just asking for it (or a sign in my yard). Sad but true.
