I'll take that as a yes then.

The sport button is the stupidest (mis) "feature" that MINI have come up with, but luckily its quite easily cured.

 

Can you provide a link? I recall ALTA claiming that having DSC off and Sport on gave full boost.

 

You know that you only need your clutch for taking off from a dead stop, right? Otherwise you can just make sure the rpm's are between 3k and 2.5k, and it will pull out of gear/go into gear without using the clutch.

Although, unless you are a truck driver you would only do this in the event your clutch, or something related, went out on you while driving the car... Then you had better make sure you do not come to a complete stop, or you will not be able to take off.

Also, I have found that it is definitely easier to shift while in sport mode. This is because this mode takes the couple of inches of dead space out of the throttle threshold.

I doubt I explicitly stated it, but during dyno testing of my '07 MCS we could just well induce overboost with the Sport button on and off. No difference in power. Plug in an OBDII scan-tool and you can see for yourself the boost levels are the same. About 10.5psig in normal mode and about 15.5psig in overboost. Sport button is just a user interface toy that changes how the throttle and boost react in part-throttle. This is why so many people get confused it actually alters the WOT power curve.

I don't know about anyone else, but with the sport button off I find it almost impossible to heel/toe. With the button on, no problem at all. I'm not crazy about the steering feel with the button on, but the throttle control is great. I can live with the steering though. I read the post to rig the sport button default on, to which I thank you all, but does any one know if the dealers computer can perform the same task??

 

Instead of dead space I always thought that the sport button removed the in-line spring.
