R56 Gen 2 floor mats 2007
The missing velcro screws - how big is the diameter of the velco on the screw - just looked at the bottom of my mats yesterday after reading this thread and saw there were 2 3 inch velcro areas on the bottom (female) of the mats. Are the screw heads that big?? I was confused by the person that used can lids - thought that was giant, but upon investigation maybe its not!! I like the looks of the rubertite ones - will save the info in case mine wear out or get too ugly.

nice work! it looks almost exactly like the oem ones.
just screw them down through the floor? anything to worry about drilling into - I guess I could look under there and see!!
I think I will make rectangular or square ones if Juan (my Mini guy in Murry) doesn't come up with the missing original ones. Cut a couple pieces of 16 gauge stainless to fit the velcro.
Thanks for the info and photos!!

Followup on the tin can lid carpet fix:
I pulled the carpets out to vacuum a few days after installing them and the lids came up with the carpet. That left me with having to screw them back down again. The solution is to gently lift the corner, reach a finger under to hold down the anchor and then peel the carpet back and off. Otherwise, you'll be brandishing a screwdriver (mechanically and/or expressively) every time you clean the carpets.
I edited post #47 to reflect a misnomer in hardware used. I originally described using machine screws when the proper term should have been sheet metal. I also replaced the original 3/8" with 5/8" which hold better.

Velcro came off my OEM rubber mats, too. Glued it back on and it came off again. Was going to anchor them with some sheet metal screws but had a bad experience doing that with a VW Rabbit years ago -- didn't know the main wiring harness was under there....ouch!
I think the look is perfect as the circles just fit so well with the interior of the MINI. Plus they are heavy enough to stay in place during 'sprited' driving.
I had a roll of velcro laying around in my garage - the more plasticy looking type (not sure if this is male or female - it's the one that sticks to the bottom of the floor mat) and I cut 2 4 inch pieces, bent them in half, stapled them closed, and stuck them to the round spots on the bottom of my floor mat (just did one side to see if it works) and pressed them into the carpet - seems to work just fine and no screws. I wonder if they make that velcro that is the same on both sides - that would be even better.

Have you seen the Rubbertite all weather mats? I installed them in my R56 and love 'em. Great fit - no sliding around and plenty of capacity for water, snow, dirt, etc. They are custom fit for the MINI. We have them for $69.99 for a set of 4 mats. I especially like the way they look.

Nice! These will fit an 08 S model?
Have them on my F250, good for a base to help prevent any other dirt or moisture from getting to the carpet, but ineffective at trapping much water. A mat with a good lip and canals is much better. However, if you are as **** about your carpet as I am mine, I would recommend it plus a top mat.
Sheepskin has a better "feel", but rubber provides more all-round protection. I guess it depends upon how many strangers penetrate your MINI, and how careful they've been before doing so.
Does anyone know how these floormats are shipped? Are the rolled up in a tube or do they ship flat. Wouldn't want to get some and find that they are all rolled up, causing more problems than the current set that I have.
luckily, no strangers that i know of so far, and i got a dashcam.
The MINI rubber mats do a good job at catching dirt -- I had them in my 03 MC and 07 MCS. But (1) they move around a lot, (2) they are boring, and (3) they turn dull with wear and cleaning.
Now I prefer cocmats because they look great and don't move at all. http://www.cocomats.com/
