The truth is that we all like MINI's because they are MINI's, NOT because one is faster than the other. I mean, would you take the engine out of the MINI and put it into some other car type you liked better? I think not. I think you, and everyone else here, would rather take an engine from another car and stick it in the MINI, if these were your only choices. I can not speak for all of you, but I know that I would rather be driving a MINI no matter what power train it had in it... Even if it's top speed was only 65mph!
+1

This sums it up quite well, yes it does!

Well said Froggy!

Motor On!

Anyway they mentioned that they were thinking about putting in the Turbo 1.6L and ive never been more excited about automotive news. That engine in a light, RWD roadster would kick major ***. Although im sure it would never make it to the United States as no one would ever buy a 4cyl bmw here.

I think the 1.6 turbo is one of the main reasons i love my mini.

Back to topic, yea the Cooper dont have enough power for me. Im sure its fully capable on an autoX or a short course, but it just takes too long to accelerate for my personal tastes.

Someone on here before said its only 2 seconds. ONLY 2 SECONDS!!! That is a life time in auto performance. Go to a local 1/4 mile strip and put a 15 sec car next to a 13 second car than you can see how big a difference of 2 seconds looks like.

MCS, JCW, JustaCooper...the main point though is that regardless of personal taste, these cars put a smile on the face whoever is driving one. That part is a fact.
2 seconds only make a difference if you are on the track no where else

Or, if you are 2 seconds ahead of a speeding semi.

In my experience, 2 seconds can make the difference between a 'hit' and a 'near miss'. That's why texting while driving (another thread) is so dangerous. Just taking your eyes off the road for a few seconds can mean the difference between being in an accident and avoiding one.

I've never been in a collision with another car in my 30 years of driving (knock on wood).

Hey Stan11003

I recognized your screen name/zip code and then I noticed that you're from Elmont! I'm from Elmont too -- I grew up there! I actually went to Carlson Elementary and SHS.

I live in Maryland now, but my husband and I go back to good old LI regularly. We're actually going back to my hometown next weekend to visit my family, and partly to break in my new car on a long-ish road trip (and bring back "pies" - not "pizzas," as they call it down here).

If I see your MINI when I'm in Elmont, I'll wave! It's always nice to meet fellow New Yorkers. I'll be the pure silver/black mini with maryland tags!

I always love it when someone feels the need to bash the car they didn't buy. As if they have to convince themselves they made the right pick, and let everyone else know they made a bad choice.

Funny how some people feel that Hummer owners are the only ones with attitude. A fair number of Mini owners carry similar baggage.
