Swapping Headlamp Clusters.

Has anybody swapped a R56 standard halogen headlamp cluster for an HID one complete with ballast etc.?

Not talking about aftermarket products. You have two stock R56 cars one with halogen and one with HID. You open the hoods and start wrenching.

Possible or not? Done it or not? Wiring looms behind them the same?

Thanks ya all.

There is a thread about this somewhere, but I can't find it. The two big differences are the auto adjust and the headlight washer. In the oem xenon setup the project or lens actually moves and there is the washer that pops out and squirts the headlight. Neither of these are necessary components. The wiring wont be exactly the same but not absolutely unadaptable.

I was afraid of that but isn't the washer a 2009 MY item?
I don't know that my 2008 has it and there are no dashboard indications of its function.

The auto adjust is far more involved and I had not thought of that. Thanks for reminding me before I swap mine for a JCW without HIDs.

As far as I know every xenon projector unit MINI has made since 2002 has has washers. There wouldn't be any indication on your dash they come on when your hood washers come on.

You can tell! One time, at night, they went off... I knew because the road got all spotty. At first, I was concerned.

But then I realized... it was pretty cool!
