I became a wacko from keeping my wheels perpetually brake-dust-free on my '03 MINI. After that, the goo was a minor inconvenience. My wheels are still clean, btw.

Figures so.Its not whining,Its expressing disbelief that one should not have to spend their hard earned money on a car that has a goo problem. Its not acceptable.Cant believe anyone thinks its acceptable

And to answer your lame comment about growing up and deal with it.Once again you missed the boat. Just amazing the thinking you have.

So is it acceptable that you buy a shirt and it has a tear in it?No,this is the same thing. You would take that shirt back and get a new one, wouldnt you?

That is annoying isnt it.Cant let it go too long cause it does become harder to get off.Thats one part of the car i hated cleaning, always had to use a tooth brush to get them completely clean

LOL,Black only stays clean for 5 minutes.I feel sorry for you, even though nothing looks better then a sharp clean black car.Especially when one lightly color sands the orange peel out.

To me it is like having a shirt that needs washing and ironing before you can wear it because the packaging it came in renders it unwearable right at first. Then...after a while it no longer needs ironing at all.....and you look fabulous wearing it!!!! Sorry...it's been a long day.

Having some goo that doesn't affect the cars driveability is not like buying a shirt with a tear. It's more like buying a shirt that doesn't fit that well. Your Mini doesn't fit you, you don't understand what owning a Mini means. Like I said, if you don't like it, sell it, you read the posts before you bought it, you knew what to expect, why is that so hard for you understand?

No I did not find this site till 2 weeks before delivery.Assuming makes one look bad. Once again where did i say this affects drive ability? So, dont compare to that.It doesnt,Its an inconvenience that any person should not have to go through. You miss the point
Why is it so hard for you to understand that having to deal with this is not acceptable?Who pays money for a product that leaks and shouldnt. It should have been taking care of before delivery. Why should one have to be inconvenience and wait till it decides to stop leaking.I like to keep a clean car and i cant while its oozing out.

Talk to the hand because we'll never see eye to eye on this. Go buy a Honda that doesn't have goo on it but drives and looks like every other car on the road. See you on the Honda forums....

How old are you?

The only reason I ask is that it seems as though you are fixated on believing we live in a "perfect world". As a guy who just hit 47, I'm here to tell you that people, machines, airplanes, cars, houses, street pavement, politicians, chemistry, physics, math, spaceflight, military plans, weapons systems-- NOTHING in the world is perfect.

My advice: Figure out if you can live with your Mini-- cosmoline seeping out and all, and if you can, great!

If you can't, then sell the damned thing and turn the money into the bank, convert it to quarters and start riding the bus (of course bus seats can be dirty, and the people who ride on buses can be irritating, and if you fall asleep you could miss your bus stop, and there is always the chance that fuel will become prohibitively expensive, and although you could get lucky on the bus with some girl, your birth control might fail and in that case she could get pregnant, and there is also the factor that the bus could get in an accident, and-- HEY! I just realized buses don't have seatbelts, and I am thinking how badly someone could get injured on one if it gets in a wreck, and, and, and, and...).

Bottom line: Keep the Mini, get drunk, get la*d, and enjoy it-- life is too short to think the cost of absolute divine perfection is only $30K.

My Dealer (also several hours away) charges what most NAM Members consider an excessive 'Dealer Prep Fee' but no complaint from me and I guess they earned it as I have never had a Cosmoline (or any other) issue and no need to RTD.

So pay for a professional detail and enjoy your perfect MINI, if your Dealer charged extra (from MSRP) for prep, perhaps you could recover.

I DO understand your 'annoyance' and really - we shouldn't have to address the issue, which the dealer or VDC should have. Your point is made. HOWEVER, since I didn't even know what this 'oil' stuff is, I googled it and found that it is indeed on BMW's as well as Porsche's and AUdi's (it's on their forums). Annoying YES, but fixable, and to me - it is something I am willing to deal with in exchange of owning a $32,000+ Mini.. that's my choice and you have to decide if it is worth it or not to you.

Well, MINI still hasn't fixed the hood scoop problem, no matter what people say. I bought my MINI in May of this year, and already it's developing a slight sag in the middle of the scoop. It came with the partially opened grill, I opened the rest of the holes the 2nd day I had the car, and I open the hood when I park in my garage. It's still starting to sag. Now what? Go to the dealer, get a new scoop, and start the whole process over? Unacceptable to me. I want a permanent fix, and I want MINI to figure it out, and provide it to me at no cost. I don't want to shell out $200 for an aftermarket heatshield, I don't want to wrap the turbo, I don't want to do anything. I bought a new car and it has a design defect. MINI should fix it, plain and simple.

I read the suggestion on Peanut butter - give me a break . PB is great for PB&J sandwiches, cookies, and the occasional application of a healthy dollop to the roof of my dogs mouth.

If you find that the pesky yellow goo has stained your paint, try applying some fine grade rubbing compound to the affected area.

Based on my own personal experience with sandwiches and cookies, I haved to agree.

Aside from that, any staining would take place in the black trim pieces....the goo comes right off painted areas.

I had one once. An A4. Had it 55,000 miles then traded it in for something else. But I know of plenty of other people that had them and they were not the least bit trouble free. So I don't think this counts.

Glad to be of service and to point out my 1989 BMW 635 CSI which in 20 years and 160,000 miles has a service record of ZERO defects. Other than gas, oil, tires, brakes, batteries and windshield wipers this car has asked for nothing. As preventive maintenance I changed the water hoses and the belt back in 1999 and will do it again sometime next year.

It is black with the lotus buffalo leather interior and looks / drives as well as the day it was delivered by Vasek Pollack BMW in Manhattan Beach, CA.

My lead footed son has a 2002 Porsche 911 with 65,000 miles and the only problem so far was a fuel pump. Nothing else.

Sadly BMW has lost their ways since those days or maybe even the Germans can't build quality products in England. It must be in the water.

FYI to the OP, it is hard for people on this forum for you to complain about something we feel so passionate about (our cars), that is why some of the NAMers are alittle defensive. A cosmoline issue seems pretty minor as well. As someone else said you can't expect to come on a forum like this and say what you said and expect no flak. Also, to compare a Mini to an American car...for most of us is ridiculus...there is no comparison. I hear your experience has been positive with american cars and thats good. It would be a generalization for me to say american cars suck, but it would also be a generalization to say that all minis have issues. All that being said you are 100% right in that these issues are unacceptable. I have a 02 and have not had any quirks...come on people they are not quicks. We have labled them quirks as to not get frustrated with Mini's unability to fix issues they have been aware of for years. My personal experience is I dont have an MA, I have a guy who took my order. Some have great MA's and I am jealous of that, but I would guess most on here have order takers. I think a great deal of frustration people have with the mini is customer service once they get the car...not the car itself. To the OP it is your choice to keep your mini or not and these issues/qiurks may cause you a little frustration down the road. For some of us risking a little frustration down the road is worth it to own such a awesome vehicle (waiting for my 09). I think you should either sell your car and get something that doesnt cause stress and you wont have to travel so far to deal with OR enjoy your mini for what it is. Which is a great little car!!
