Oh 12 pack, you should of saved your money and bought a GM or Ford product, Its sad when people suffer from naivety, but its even worse when you publicize it. Speaking of "Bandwith waste" if you dont have anything good to type find a different forum, sell your car and buy a ricer.

I always waved and never got return waves. Then I realized my tinting was too dark for people to see me waving...

I keep a flare gun handy for those, like 12pack, who refuse to wave. That gets their attention in a hurry. Especially at night.

By the way, I've yet to see a Clubman out on the road, except for at Mini Takes the States.

Either fellow mini owners are over friendly "ghey like" or they dont even acknowledge ya.

I find the belligerent "you will wave or get a different car" types fascinating. Belong to our cult or get out!

The non-wavers bought a car. It's built on assembly-line. The only thing they may have in common with you is that car purchase and even then with the base to the s to the clubman to the convertible the various cars are vastly different and do not reflect personality or tastes. You really don't share anything with this people any more than you would with someone who happens to buy Coke or prefers Polo brand.

Except that I don't get together with others to drink Cokes or admire our little polo pony shirts.

I don't have my Clubman, yet (it's on order)...but when I get it (fingers crossed it's by December), I will be friendly... ! I'd have gotten the Mini S, but our 7 year old has freakishly long legs and needs the bit of extra space in the back. Otherwise, it would be a constant complaining noise from the back seat...

After I wrote my original comment I went out on an errand and then stopped off to get some gas. Lo and behold there was a Clubman pulling away from a pump as I was pulling in, I waved and she enthusiastically waved back. Maybe there's hope for the Mini cult after all. Don't let this huge part of owning a Mini disappear, keep waving!

Waving is still (hopefully) a part of Mini ownership. Keep the wave alive!

I've gotten return waves from clubman's including a fully loaded one where all four occupants waved with enthusiasm.

Only once did I get a complete snub... it was from an S owner who was probably just having a bad day. He looked right me while I waved and continued frowning. Did he mean to snub me? I will never know. More than likely though he was just tied up in his own thoughts and didn't have time to react.

The moral of the story? As in gbsim's heartwarming story about a transplanted southerner... Give other Mini owners the benefit of the doubt and if they fail to wave back hope that maybe, just maybe, in some small way you have brightened their day.

You get together with other Cooper owners based purely on the ownership of a car?

Yes, and I've met some very nice people. And we've had some killer runs: through Oregon's covered bridge region, through the Umpqua National Forest and on to Crater Lake, to the coast and other places.

Call me crazy, but I also drove 800 miles last month to join 1,300 other like-minded Mini owners for Mini Takes the States.

The book is From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.' The quote is from one of our presidental candidates. Vote in November with your morals and your pocketbook in mind !
There are only these two classes of MINI owners? So, to extend your logic, if I wave, I am, as you say, "ghay"? And if I don't wave, am I "OK", in your mind, because I am hetrosexual, or am I not OK, because I am unfriendly? God/Allah, I am so confused...

Also, regarding your signature Line, do you actually have the book, you have read it, and can point to the quote in your signature line? If not, you should fear the person that gave you this misinformation, not the person to whom you attribute it. Don't worry, the White House can stay white on the outside.

Your signature line is a rewording of a passage from page 261 of The Audacity of Hope, in which Barack Obama spoke of the importance of not allowing inflamed public opinion to result in innocent members of immigrant groups being stripped of their rights, denied their due as American citizens, or placed into confinement, as was done with Japanese-Americans during World War II. The original contains no specific mention of "Muslims":

Quote:
"In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction".

So, if I am Black, should I wave to you? Indian (either dots, or feathers)? Buddah, I am so confused .....

Moderators, I am assuming this is a MINI forum not a political forum and I know I should not be rambling on, however I am not suggesting a vote for any candidate. I assume I should cease and desist from further political ramblings. However I do not think this site should be a venue for allowing fear mongering political signature lines, aimed at either candidate, to go unanswered. I respectfully suggest that you review the signature line in question, and take action only if you feel it is if appropriate. No disrespect to FlyingZ06 is intended, by this request. Nor am I attacking the right to free speech. There is plenty of alternate internet bandwidth available to debate the candidates. I am only requesting NAM be used for it's intended purposes. Conversely, if you condone inflammatory political signature lines then you should also allow debate of the signature line.

Because I am a non-waver I have to sell my car? HA HA HA

You are the one who is naive. Get a mitt Matty and get in the game pal.

I have no problem stating that I am a non waver and I will not waver from my decision to not wave.

For this to even be discussed by a supposed group of adults is absurd.

Happy waving if thats what your into but dont tread on me because I dont follow your beliefs or idiotic rituals.

The only thing I will be waving at you Matty is a big middle finger. HA HA HA

Totally OT and definitely not appropriate for this forum, but the original sig line is unfortunately there staring everyone in the face and the clarification is very much appreciated...

I would love to wave, but my hands are full with all the ladies I now cart around when I told them I had 9.4 more inches than you regular Cooper guys. Oh, and they really dig the club door. I put a little velvet rope in front to make it more exclusive.

Bah Humbug! There are a few, really stuck up Cooper drivers out there, according to comments.

ANY Cooper who comes up on my side, and they often speed up to check out the Clubman, gets a wave and smile.

...if you're the hottie in the Red/white MCS, wave me over next time.
We'll do that "lunch thing."

Many clubbie owners are newbies like me... we want to wave, but are still trying to remember which switch lowers the window!

cheers!

Nope, I have not "named" my car. It is simply called "The Mini"

Before we bash owners for not being part of the "cult", we should probably realize that large part of the "cult mystique" is BMW's doing. They've done a great job of playing up the racing/customization heritage of the classic Mini, but with 5+ million of the classic sold over 41 years, I'm willing to bet that a large number of them were nothing more than basic transportation for their owners.

With over a million new MINIs sold between 2001 and 2007, and current production at 240,000 per year and rising, we don't drive limited-production "boutique" cars, and we shouldn't expect *all* MINI owners to be fanatics.

I actually almost bought a clubman by accident...the only reason I didn't get it was because it didn't have the sports package When I realized it was indeed a clubman, I was sad it didn't have the sports package (I only really wanted the DSC). Then I met my MINI and all was right with the world again

I know around here, the only waves I'll get are those few Manic's I run across. And that doesn't happen a lot. There have been a few occasions, like in front of target in the parking lot where I was waiting to turn and a BRG cooper and I exchanged a quick wave.

I actually get pretty annoyed at the fact that there are two-three other MINIs that look like me. I think thats one of the reasons people don't wave around here.

Thats why I've decided to forgo alllll of the performance mod's I was planning on doing and have bumped up the Challenge Stripes to the #1 spot on my list. Perhaps even the JCW spoiler. And the JCW Aero Kit for sure....

Second job here I come!
