Everyone in my neighborhood stops to let the quail cross the street. The quail here have become so accustomed to it, that they actually step out onto the curb and watch the cars come to a complete stop before moving out into the road.

Same here with the Canada geese -- there have even been signs posed, "Goose Crossing" in a few areas. Unfortunately, one didn't make it and no one bothered to go get it, just drove crazy around it, etc....so, of course, dummy ME goes to get it at least off to the side of the road. I had the hubby drive up and put on hazards while I jumped out with plastic folders (the only thing I had handy - and lucky for me I did, since they were washable!!) and hefted the poor thing to the grass...those things are HEAVY! And no one would come get it...none of the shelters / humane associations / etc. And one can't just "throw it out" since VA is pretty particular about the wild birds here...so I had to leave it for the grass maintenance crew.
