R56 aftermarket sound system
so i was wondering.
is this even possible? to get a completely new head unit.
i look at the stock unit, and it looks severely integrated into
the vehicle. i can't imagine the stock unit being taken out
without the process being very invasive. i hope im wrong.

My understanding is that replacing the head unit is extremely difficult, if not impossible. However, people have been adding amps, subs, and new speakers by using something like a CleanSweep.
I bought the HIFI option, which includes an external amp, and just swapped the speakers out for Infinity Kappas. It puts out decent sound. It could use a sub, but I don't think I'll bother. There is so much ambient noise in the MINI at highway speeds that investing more in audio isn't worth it for me. I don't do a lot of city driving.
