R56 Wind Up Key
THat is where exactly I'm going to design one. Looks tough at the tow spot. I wouldn't make it so ridiculously big....something proportional. Wish me luck, I'm going to do a lot of research for parts, life test, field test, prototype up front cost....etc. IF it works out, the cost won't be that much.

I saw one of these on a MINI at a traffic light recently. It was pretty funny - people were pointing and laughing as it sat there and wound itself.
It's a nicely made piece, and runs from the license plate light wire.

I know we, the mini owners, are very "bayish" our toys so I will try the best..not to temper much or not at all with the mini's wiring system or drilling anything. This is a plus for all of us but will see how tough it is to put a good DC motor with a strong shaft. Don't get our hopes up so high because not much space there and most of small motor I've searched so far have small shaft...this is no good for wind shear....
There was an article about adding a wind up key to a car in Make Magainze issue9: http://makezine.com/09/diycars_windup/

Does this mean us early-concept thread-contributors get a free prototype, to help promote advertising and sales??!?!?!?!
