I took my MINI for its first "trip" on the highway averaging about 75 to 80 with AC I was getting on average 38 MPG.
On the way home, running around a bit and flooring it a number of times I ended up with 475 miles out of the tank.

So the average mostly highway mixed in with some aggressive city driving came out to be around 36mpg.

No complaints at all on my end on that aspect.

As far as the computer, manual calculation (I filled up exactly 13 gallons and the odometer showed 475 miles with about 30 miles left) Mine seems to be accurate. I do have the home made CAI so that may be helping as well.

We just did Shawn's first fill up, he got 29.0 MPG (really, not what the computer thinks). This included a couple of longish freeway journey's. When we got Tristan last year he only got 28.2 for much the driving, so I'm very pleased with that.

Yesterday when I left work I reset the mpg and had the sport button on. I got 39.3mpg. This morning I reset it at home and had the sport button on and when I got to work it read 35.9 mpg. Average is about 37.5 mpg. The tank was filled with Chevron gas last time. My commuting distance is 19 miles round trip and that means I use a gallon every two days!! Awesome!

I have purposely been a good boy this week. My weekly commute is 94 miles round trip = 470 miles. I filled up Monday morning and I have been careful in regards to speed and acceleration. The hardest thing is driving the speed limit but I have done it and I hit 443 miles before the fuel light illuminated. OBC is showing 37.6 mpg. I will fill up tonight when I get home and will calculate actual mpg, but I figure it will be a tad over 36 mpg. My last tank I was purposely a bad boy and still avg. 31.3 mpg. Love this car! Some of you guys and gals out there avg. below 30 must be really autoX'ing to work or something.

Fill the tank yesterday. 90% city and 10% highway. I averaged 29.5MPG which isn't too bad considering 3 people "test drove" my car as they are considering a MINI The engine is broken in so they drove it fairly hard

On the reverse, 10% city 90% highway I am averaging ~35mpg going +12 posted. On my next trip I will be driving +5 posted max to see if I can reach 38-40mpg range

2008 MCS w/ 6 speed. I'm getting about 38 mpg. Using Unleaded Plus (89 octane). Granted, much of my driving is either back roads or highway and I try to keep it in 5th or 6th as much as I can but I'm not taking it particularly easy. If I can I'm going 80-90 mph. What I really enjoy is not breaking around curves.

The computer thinks I'm getting more than I am, but not by too much.

Tell me, what are your shift points? I typically shift around the 3k mark. My mileage is around 28 in the city and somewhere between 32 and 37 on the highway (depending on speed).

Most of my driving is city based anymore though.

usually i shift around 2K rpm for the first 5mins after a cold start. once the engine is warmed up (at least I hope it is warmed up) I shift between 3-3.5K rpm

I shift sooner than that if I'm just taking it easy and being efficient - shifting around 2300-2500.

Got 468 miles out of a tank on my last trip. Mixed, with several dashes into the 80's passing, and spirited driving while in the city.
You want to improve you mpg on a trip? Find a 18 wheeler and stay behind him 3-4 car links. Watch the numbers climb. MINIs love the draft.

ACK! Does that mean that I'm driving like a nut? Beatrice averages around 29 combined. Although, if there were a category for sub city driving (defined as crawling through the streets of DC) I'm sure it would be way lower than average city driving. Driving a stick in DC traffic is ...challenging sometimes.
