I picked mine up from Detroit Tuned. Very fast shipment and they included a couple of freebies/samples of other products. I'll probably order from them again. $10 each, as advertised.
...just checked this thread....interesting info....how many of these filters come with the crush washer?? I am assuming all come with the gasket, but the crush washer is just as important...IMO.

The ones from Detroit Tuned come with the washer and gasket. They are the actual OEM part from BMW.
$14 at dealer (Brecht in Escondido, CA), then ordered a box of 10 from german filters or similar for $70 (~$7 each). They arent factory but are fine, they are Mahle or Mahns, either ones I've used in my 1996 BMW Z3 (similar filter and container) for 200k+ miles.

Ordered two from them yesterday....one for this weekend and one for further down the road.
germanfilters.com sells em for $7.98 each. bit of a discount if you buy 4, and even more of a discount if you buy 10. thanks to whoever posted that, thats what i went with. cant beat that price.
Just be aware that you'll hafta go buy the drain-plug crush washers somewhere else anyway: German doesn't include them in their filters -- found that out the hard way

The GERMANFILTERS do not come with the crush-washer ... AAAAND: two different MINI dealers in Chicago quoted me $1.45 and $3.60 FOR THE SAME WASHER !!! (moral of the story: ask before you buy!)
Clasic MINI is a NAM vendor. Go to the Dealer forums and click on the Classic MINI forum. They have a banner ad at the top, and all sorts of contact info. I was very pleased with their service on the order I placed, and I got an honest 20% of all OEM list prices.
The picture has a white fabric with zig-zag layout. The OEM filter from OutMotoring, which were noted in the next posting, has a tan matrix with straight folds. I just ordered a pair of the WayMotorWorks filters because I liked the looks (more surface area?) and the guy on the phone said they were OEM.
My dealer (Ferman) quoted me $9.78 over the phone. When I got there they tried to charge me $21.42...I said no way. They ended up selling it to me for $12 which I think is on the high end of fair. MINI oil was $6.20/qt.

Are they the white R56 filter? I've seen some confusing ads out there. The Germanfilters site didn't have a pic.
Regarding the oil drain plug copper seal washer, I would think that unless it was scarred up it could be reused a number of times and not cause a leak. I would be uncomfortable not replacing the o-ring on the filter "can" but it seems that all filters come with the o-ring. I agree that the Mann German filters should be equivalent to the white "zig zag" OEM filter. I think I'll buy 10 filters from German Filter and see how many leak free uses I can get out of the drain plug washer.

Anything over $9.78 is a rip-off, based on your phone quote. I had a similar issue years ago at my BMW dealer when I bought OEM oil. I got a low-ball price by phone, and nearly double the price when I showed up - the same day! Fortunately, I knew the name of the parts guy I spoke with. When I reminded him about our conversation, the price magically returned to the quoted price. You should have seen his face when I asked for three cases!
...and dealers wonder why they have such a bad reputation...

Not sure if it makes a difference but the copper washer is a "crush" washer. It starts out kinda rounded and is flattened by torquing the drain plug. If it is pre-flattened, would you still get the same seal? Don't know.

I agree but didn't want to get into it with the parts guy over $2 after driving 140mi/rt to get the parts. I needed a filter now for my post break-in oil change. I will order filters in bulk from a NAM vendor in the future.
I tried to source the parts at my local BMW dealer (~5mi from my house) but balked at the $9.30/qt for BMW 5W30 oil -vs- $6.20 for the same MINI branded oil.
