Tracking Your MINI Shipment

I helped my friend order a MINI, one week after I ordered my X3, and in logging onto this tracking site, I think they might be on the same vessel.

Does the ship start off in Bremerhaven loading up BMW's, and then stop Southampton and load up MINI's, before coming to New York?

This would be so cool that our cars are riding on the same ship.

I don't know the ports, but the ships that carry MINIs do also carry BMWs. They offload at the same place and are processed in the same VDC. In the 1st Gear forum there is a thread about tracking the ship. If you are on the west coast, you can watch it go through the Panama Canal with a web cam.

So I guess another thing they do is off-load BMW's bound for the UK at Southampton. Makes perfect sense.

they make multiple stops...

They used to make multiple stops, I remember back in 03 when I got my first mini everyone would watch their car come across the pond and some were unlucky as the boat would head down to south carolina for a stop FIRST and then head up to drop off all of the mini's. adding several days time to the delivery

I wonder if that was to pick up BMW production from South Carolina and bring some of it back up the coast before heading back to Europe.

Anyhow, in Southampton, the ship is spending several days at more than one pier, before heading to New York. It looks like the first stop was a the Test Road facility, where I think our MINI got loaded. Now it is upriver a bit, at a smaller facility.

I was able to locate where the Liberty was by tracking it on the Wallenius Site under Customer Centre/Schedules/Search by Vessel and entering my ship's Voyage number, and it showed all of the ship's stops on it's current voyage.

Then for specific ship locations, in almost real time, I was able to spot roughly which piers it was at by going to http://aisfree.aislive.com

It is kind of amazing how efficient and quick all of this is, when you realize the quantity of vehicles and the logistics involved.

You were able to get this website to work? I did the registration for it yesterday and couldn't get it to tell me any info on my Mini. Supposedly it's at the port in NY.

Is there any way to track it once it leaves the NY port?

Hmmm, I think when they are in port, they are not obliged to be reporting their location. I did have luck though in Southampton, and was able to click near the south coast of the UK on the map, and click around to where I thought that Southampton was, using GoogleEarth maps as a guide, then I was able to see where my ship was, and when I went back to GoogleEarth, I was able to pinpoint what dock/pier it was loading from at any given time.

Back on the Wellenius site, you can search Schedules>Search by Voyage, and you can get the entire itinerary of your ship.
