R56 Used my horn today!
I "tried" to use my horn yesterday.
Couldn't hit the small horn buttons on my MFSW fast enought but I was able to accelerate past the person talking on their cell phone moving in to the passing lane without any turn signal while I was driving next to them.
If they had looked out their window they would have seen me but I think the phone was blocking their view.
How would somone avoid this potential situation by driving defensivley?
Keep in mind I was doing 70 in a 65, passing the vehicle in question, in rush hour traffic, following a car passing the same vehicle about 4 car lengths behind.
You can't anticipate everything in life but I sure would like to anticipate the next numbers drawn for the PowerBall.
I realize that Defensive driving is trying to put yourself in the least amount of risk possible but you cannot anticipate another persons actions all the time.
My defensive driving today was to not drive since we're getting 4-8 inches of snow today!
I wish you could hit the airbag and honk the horn!

Something else MINI changed with the R56. Didn't realize that.

I don't have the MSFW, and I can just mash the giant center piece with the MINI badge on it to honk. Are you saying that those of you with MSFW can't do that?!
If so, I'm terribly glad I skipped the MSFW.
I drive 50 miles each way to work, so I use my horn at least once every day in the bumper to bumper traffic heading past NYC. Almost got sandwiched between two tractor trailers yesterday morning. Bunch of friggin idiots on the road...
I don't honk when someone cuts me off in the fear of having a gun pulled out on my face. But I honk when someone cuts off the car in front of me because the horn is loud enough for him/her to hear two cars away and the bad guy/gal won't suspect me.
I've always felt the smaller the car the bigger the horn should be! I've had to use it in a pinch, though, and for the most part it's performed well.
The one time it DIDN'T work, though--and I really laid on it--was the time the lady in front of me FORGOT she was in reverse. When the light changed, the predictable happened--I had nowhere to go behind me, and she wasn't listening. Fortunately all I got out of it was a crack in my bumper and a bent license plate, which took most of the impact. She actually paid for it, too! You can't see the repair...

I concur.... I coincidentally had to use the horn for the first time today after almost 3 months of owning it. Coming from several Nissans and Toyotas before I was pretty damn impressed with this. It's loudest and as someone else put it "manliest" horn of all of those cars I mentioned.
I think some of you folks are hanging out on unsavery websites too much and you have "NSFW" on your brain. And don't ask me how I know about those letters.

If you are unaware of blind spots, that is usually a major cause of accidents. I noticed that the MINI has an enormous blind spot. I work very hard to avoid driving in others' blind spots.
On another note, my horn on my MFSW is very hard to engage. I have to really push to get it to work. Does anyone else notice this?

Here you go. At 139 DB it is several times louder than almost anything else out there. It is an airhorn so there is a VERY short delay as it gets to full power. A small fraction of a second. I've had one on my motorcycle for over two years and I'm extemely pleased with it/
