Interesting Quesion about Engine Break In Period

Hey guys...just picked up my 08 MCS last saturday 2/2....wanted to get some feedback from the techy guys...

i know all the most important things about varring the RPMS's..not going over a certain amount.....and speed too...what is it 100..hahah...

but my question is that even though i am in the break in period...is there anything that i should be doing/not doing for breaking the engine/car in over a longer period of time then most.....my new mini is not my daily driver...and quite literally its a weekend car.....or even less than that....a Friday car....so obviously all the sames rules apply..or do they?

#1 is it bad or exceptionally bad to only use the car that infrequent during the breaking in period?

#2 because i am only using it 1-3 days a week with light driving on even those days....do i need to change the break in specs/period?

any help would be much appreciated...thx

adam

I dont think taking too long to break in is a problem. How you manage to take a long time is difficult to understand, but, to each his own.
Enjoy.

You need to get it broken in. That's gonna be hard to do driving it once per week. The main thing is letting the motor get warmed up with "easy" driving. Then when it is warm, drive in town, the highway, back roads, etc. You need to get on it a little, a good way is to take a long backroad trip, 45 mins or so, where you can slow down to 40 and accelerate to 60 or so in 4th. You do this multiple times, helps the engine to cycle loaded and unloaded. An R56 needs for the engine to be really warm to run well, I don't know why. Drive it like it will be usually driven, it will break in to your driving style. Just don't be running it hard when cold. After it is broken in, it will run smoother when cold. You don't want to let it idle to warm up.....crank it up and go, just like the OM says. Just take it easy when the engine is cold.

I had the same concerns with mine - 6 weeks to get to 1200 miles. This is a really bad winter for driving a new MINI because the roads are being grossly oversanded in my town. I'm all for safety but my town's road crew throws sand on every pass, turning the streets into dirt roads (they'd sand them too if they weren't closed for the winter). 3/4" of rain yesterday + wicked snowmelt and the roads are mud. My tax dollars at work. Their obsession, however, is keeping the MINI in the garage wayyyy too much

If there was only a way to winter-wash her at home afterwards. Still too cold, the snowpack is over 6", and more is coming.

C'mon Spring!!!
