R56 Mechanical whir when car is off?

How long is the "whirring" suppose to last? Yesterday it lasted for 30 minutes after driving the car 10 miles. To me if sounds like a pump or a fan running.

Now I will feel bad if I go out to the MINI to get something out of the car and don't go for a drive, kinda the way I do if I put my shoes on and my dogs think it's time for a walk.
