R56 From an MCS owner: Fun driving a MC?
I find this pretty amusing as I have a stock engined Miata and a boosted Miata with litterally twice the power at the wheels over the stock one... and I can honestly say that the turbo car is not really more fun than the na car.
They are drastically different and great in their own ways.
I have driven a handful of Minis now and I really love both versions of the car. I will say that the R53 "justacooper" with the automatic was a bit anemic but the handling was still magical. The R56 with the auto is a significant improvement in the propulsion department.
All Minis are great, IMO but each demands a different driving style. I can't say that I would even necessarily prefer a MCS over a MC on The Dragon or similar roads.
There is a special kind of fun that can only be had in a car that has more suspension than motor.

I try to avoid reading these kind of topics, but I can never resist. Grass is always greener. I've driven an old M3 prior to my MC. Maybe it's a sign of aging, but I wanted an economy commuter so I went with a lightly optioned MC. I honestly didn't expect the MC to be such a blast to drive. Now my fun is focused on twisties versus accerleration and non-performance mods for now. It's satsifying to push this 118hp little engine that could to its limits. Love the whine actually!
MC (vs. MCS) ROCKS!
Then, again, I've not driven an MCS. But when looking for my next vehicle (coming from a Jeep Wrangler), gas mileage was the first priority. Sporty & fun next.
So, the MINI was it. Since I had no plans to take the car to the racetrack for an occasional spin (and because the MC had better gas mileage than the MCS), it was a no brainer. Plus it was cheaper.
Long story short, I'm hard pressed not to get a daily speeding ticket in my new '07 MC!!!!!!!! Especially when I slide it into 6th gear. This lil' thang is ZIPPY!!!
Couldn't be happier with my plain ol' MC!
