RED service light @ start up

Hmmm.....I currently have 7000 miles on my R56 and the RED service light started to appear yesterday. (It's the one that looks like the outline of the car @ start up) Could it be true that I need service already? The funny thing is, yesterday I was tinkering with the OBC settings and after I finished doing that, the light came on at the next start up. The car seems to be running fine, so I'm not sure if I accidentally set off the RED... Does anyone know if the light can be reset? I checked in the OM but no luck. Any info. appreciated.

Ive got 900 miles on mine. Its been doing that at startup for as long as I can remember. It goes away after a few seconds so I figured whatever. If the car stops running I'll know there's a problem. Thanks for posting this as I have been curious.

If the icon is of a car on a hoist, see page ~121 in your owner's manual. It is page 121 of the .pdf version of the owner's manual, where it says:
Lights up in red: Have the system in question checked without delay. Starter failed or ignition malfunctioning. Engine restart only possible when brake is depressed

or lighting system failed. Low beams/tail lamps and brake lamps still operational. All other lamps failed

Thanks for your replies! No 'car on a hoist' here just the outline of the car. YES, mine also goes away after a few seconds. Anyone else experiencing this? Have a great day

Your boot might be open. I saw a picture with the car outline and a long "antenna" turns out it was the boot. lol

When I start my car, it estimates how long I've got left until the next maintenance is required. It's not RED though, it's orange. If it's got a number on top of it, that's the remaining mileage.
