My ideal Cooper S will have:

Sport Package
Premium Package
Xenons

I've been really debating though how much I really need the sunroof. Xenons and Sport is a MUST.
Besides the Xenon, make sure you get LSD, also DSC and the rear fogs. Many regret not getting the rear fogs, and DSC is just an advanced safety feature, in case you drive over the limit.

LSD is not included in the sport package right?

nope, but DSC is.

You may also want the sport suspension which is included with the sports package on the 08 models. (it was ala carte on the 07s)

An S2000 is kinda expensive for a 19 yr. old isn't it? For that matter so is a BWM 1,3 series and even an MCS configured with your specs. I don't think I could afford a headlight of any of those cars when I was 19.

The Devil is in the details. I learned to drive on a 1995 Ford Explorer when I was 15. I had been driving 3+ years before I got the s2k. It was purchased in 2004 for $26,000 from a man who bought it while is Boxter S was in production. The car had 3,000 miles on it. It was one hell of a deal. 4 years I'm selling it for 7k less than what was paid. Btw, I'm 22yrs old and about to finish college. Gratefully I am debt free. I have a 55k a yr job pretty much sealed upon graduation in a semester. I dont like to put a number on what kind of car I deserve. I just know that it would be financially irresponsible to spend more than 35k on a car. In reality I'll only be financing about 10grand. I didnt wake up yesterday and say hey I want a MINI. I've wanted this car ever since I saw it 7 years ago. I've been following the 1series for about 2 years now. I would agree that a 35k car is a lot for a 19yr old. But then again you've probably never been to Southern FL. Thanks for not judging.

Hey no offense meant, just responding to your post saying "young yes, rich no". Just pointing out that when I was your age, couldn't afford jack, so in my eyes, you are rich.

Well, not exactly. I traded the S2000 in on a used NSX then traded that in on my previous Mini. This time I traded in a 1995 911 Carrera S for my 2007 Mini!

I'm about to do the same. I come from an AP1 DD and had a crazy accident and totalled the car. I'm looking for replacements but it is hard to fill the shoes of my loved S2k. I have an AS MCS all planned out but have to wait for it to be built since there is none in the country with the all the options that I want. I'm about to test drive the MCS today and if I'm happy I'll order one today. But it's going to be hard. Either a Lotus or MCS..... decisions decisions.....

Damn!! Another S2K owner. Awesomeness. I'm guessing that back end went loose on you? Let me know what you think after your test drive man? My MINI dealer is located downtown and is such a hastle to go to. It seems like they have most of the cars inside the showroom.

So I'm bringing the thread back...oh well. I too am another S2k to Mini person. Silver9k on s2ki. I LOVED my s2k, especially after I put the 2.5 stroker motor in and it was working. But then I had too many problems with the new motor, so I sold the car. What I thought was my dream was my nightmare.

I've always liked Mini's but never drove one. There was a 05 CR MCS at the local BMW dealer so I decided to test drive it. Now its in my garage. Like you, I'm 22...a great time to have the Mini! It was sad to see my S2k leave, thinking about all the good memories. But after 3 1/2 years it was time to move on. I truely believe the MCS will give me the same pleasure, especially if I don't mess with it!

Wow, I was a college student in the wrong era! I wonder what it must be like to have such a nice ride, not to mention any ride while still in college?

But you're gonna love your MINI. I washed mine tonight and added at least 25 HP~!

Sometimes parents are great. I'm 30 now, but I was lucky because here in Louisiana the driving age was still 15 when I got my license. I got a beat up Corolla when I was 15, but when I turned 16 I was able to convince my dad to buy me a one year old Alfa Spider! I had been pestering him about it since I was 8 years old though. He only had to pay 17k though which isn't too bad considering what a lot of parents do for their kids. I will be forever grateful though. Drove that car for 9 years and loved it. Got $7500 for it when I sold it to some semi-wealthy people who brought it up to like-new condition. They must've put at least another $8000 in it- new paint, new interior, everything to where it looked brand new. So it was a great experience...the maintainence costs though...sheesh- my dad always said "we bought it twice"!

Did you get a chance to test drive the R56 and R53 back to back? They have different characters, like you mention of the AP1 and AP2. It sounds like you want a new car, though, so I guess that leaves the R53 out.

Anyway, good luck! I've always admired s2k's from a distance. Never drove one - would love to, though.

i love my s2000 though and could never part with it. i know its small and has room for jack sh*t...but its a wonderful car. i would just have to add the mini to the stable.

its just something about that screaming vtec honda powerplant, roadster configuration, and RWD that I could never give up.

the cooper S (r56) that i drove was a hoot though. I want one!

That is too funny man. I recall emailing you on s2ki around Xmas time inquiring about how to squeeze more power out of my s2k. Nice to know that your a Mini-enthusiast too. Congrats on the MINI. I've put my plans on pause as of now. Not b/c I dont love the MINI but b/c its financially irresponsible at this point.

Haha...when Honda builds me an AP3 I will be back. She s2k isnt going anywhere until I get the 135i. 2 cars at my stage in life is not smart. At least I can say, ''been there rocked that.''

You really need to test drive one...I guarantee it will be one of the best gearboxes you will EVER encounter...

I've only ever driven an R53 and it was not an S. It also had a Betty Boop front plate. lol

Yeah, I definitly had a lot of power for an N/A S2k. I know all about them too...but its fun getting into something new and re-learning things. This time though, I am NOT doing anything major. Any upgrades I do will be relatively minor things.

And yes, AP3...I'm interested, if they do it right.

Good luck with your MINI.

kinda agree with him... but i know it's personal preference. Both are nice cars, just what style of riding you would like... i just don't like how the s2000's are very uncomfortable and small, but everything about honda engineering is amazing..

goodluck with your car and welcome to the forum! and your ap2 is quite nice.. was close to get an ap1 one myself!
