Yup another DIY oil change...
well i decided to change my oil today in my new mini. it has about 2400 miles. i thought 15k was a little too much for a new motor. first off the oil change was VERY easy. its the first time i did an oil change on a newer car and did not drop a single drop of oil, i really like how the oil filter is setup as well. when i drained the oil i was surprised how much metal was coming out. im definitely glad i changed it. i know others have gone by the manual and had no problems but im glad i did this now. anyways just thought i'd share my experience with all of you. on a side note i ordered my Mach V springs and they should be getting here next week hopefully. now i can get rid of that R56 monster truck look. i just wanna say that Dan at Mach V was extremely helpful as were the Turn In Concept people. both were more than willing to help me.
this is my first new car as well. i've built motors before and i've always changed the oil after break-in so i didnt feel comfortable with waiting until 15k but there was enough metal that i could see some of it on the top of my oil container.
I changed mine (06) at 1K miles, filtered the oil through a funnel and paper towel and examined the filter.... there was a lot of grit, copper turnings, and aluminum chips in both the filter and the oil. No BMW cool-aid stains on my tongue.
