Resetting airbag codes

As some of you might know, I recently did an audio install that required me to remove the seats and the doors. After reinstalling the seats and dash parts, I now have an airbag code on my tach. I was hoping that after a few starts, the code icons would disappear. It's been about a month and they're still there.

Does anyone here know how to reset this code, or do I have to go back to the dealer. They want $150 to reset it. Any opinions/suggestions? and as always,.....................Thank you all in advance,

I have gone through this a few times on my Porsche and BMW. On those cars, and I am guessing the Mini, only the dealer has the computer to do it. If you live in an area that has several dealers, call around. Some charge much less than others. I found one Porsche dealer that did it for $50. BMW did it for free. Good luck.

From what I understand, if you remove your seats for any reason, be sure to disconnect your battery beforehand and you will not get the airbag alarm. you will have to go to dealer for reset in your case.

djam43,

The first thing I do in an audio install is disconnect the negative battery cable for safety reasons. Well, I guess it's off to the dealer! :( Thanks anyway.

If you have an indepentant european auto repair shop they likely have the diagnositic computer for BMW. They should be able to reset the airbag code for you. They may have to download the latest update for the R56. I had the same problem after installing the Nuvi Nav system. A local repair shop did the reset for free. It only took a few minutes after he had the latest download from his software supplier.
