Talk to the dealers about how far away you are. I'm 3+ hours away from the closest dealer (no dealers in WV or KY). Actually, being that far away, some dealers were looking to break into the market and gave me great deals. Also, the dealer I went with (Cincinnati Mini) told me that I could bring in the car on a Saturday and, since I was so far away, they'd give me a loaner for the day to see the sights - I could keep the loaner all day if I wanted. Minis don't require service that often anyway. The dealer was very understanding about my distance in the purchase and they have promised to be similarly understanding about the maintenance.

I can't offer advice on the buy or wait....but you're right about having some time because you order it and not quite yet buy it....of course, my Mini came in a full month early so be ready.

 

Update to this thread - I have ordered my MINI! I don't have any info on a build date or anything yet, and I am trying to wait patiently, but it's hard!
