One of the dealer in my area quoted $1400 for the alarm and installation!!!!!What are they smoking!? I decided to go to MINI of Peabody- only $210 for installation.

Hi Simpson (or anyone who has the r56 alarm)- So how do you like the alarm?
All- anyone have the alarm + Nav? I notice on my NAV under setup there are audible sound choices for when I lock the car- audible or not for instance- they are greyed out, I presume they become active with the alarm?

So I got my alarm installed at MINI of Peabody this past Saturday. The dealer has installed the alarm kit for 3 R56s already and said it would take about 2 hours which equals to $210. That sounds fair...

My MINI has NAV, so unfortunately, it didn't take 2 hours. It took 5 hours! According to my dealer, the software has to be updated before installing the alarm, which takes 2.5 hours alone because of the navigation. When they install the kit on other R56s, it only took 30mins to update because it didn't have NAV. Thankfully, the dealer only charged me 2 hours of labor

for almost the same price you can get a lojack and never worry about your car being stolen again, I dont think most thiefs know how to bypass it yet

mine calls my cell phone if my car moves without my lojack key fob inside the car

I have lojack as well. I got the alarm because I like the chirp and the cool heartbeat indicator on top of the tach.

Thanks for the heads up on the navigation issue - I was going to install the alarm on my own and just bring it in for the programming, but I saw in the official install instructions the part about making sure the software is up to date before installing the alarm, so I'm going to set up an appointment w/ my service department.

Hopefully, they'll quote me a flat price for the install based on the recommended time on the official install instructions - roughly two hours labor because I really don't think I'll pony up for five hours of install time @ $100/hr.

If you go to Motoringfile.com they've got a write up on this. It is essentially a new exhaust, intake and engine programming. The new components develop 192bhp and Torque 184lbf-ft/250nm (199lbf-ft/270nm with overboost).

I really like it, but it appears as if there isn't a manual available for it. I was able to find out from my MA that you can turn off your interior sensors by pressing the lock button on the FOB twice. I asked about this since we do have pets and I didn't want the alarm going off if I had to leave one of them in the Mini with the windows rolled down a bit. There isn't an option to lock it and not turn on the alarm but the interior sensors can be deactived using the step above.

I've not had it go off with the exception of my testing it to make sure the interior sensors worked by sticking my hand in through an open window. So far I'd give it .

Perhaps, but it depends on where you live, lojack isn't available nationwide.

Hi Jarid, I haven't actually met you but Dan pointed you out to me when I picked up my MCSa on the 3rd. I've heard of others that were able to get the parts/service department to make a copy of the manual for them. Would you or Dan be willing to try to get a copy of one? Dan did look for a manual for me but was told there isn't an "official" manual. Dan did answer the question I had, but I may have more and just don't know it yet .

These alarms are a rip off.
The 335i alarm can be bought for $230 and many dealers were activating it for free if the car was in for a service.

I just got my alarm installed by the dealer. The "heartbeat" is very cool. I actually like hearing the activation beep when I lock the car. Helps me remember that I actually locked it, and I can check the "heartbeat".

Before rushing in to work, I tried activating the alarm by sticking my hand in through the open window, but nothing happened. Is there a time delay before the interior sensor activates? Not that I would ever use it, but is there a panic button? I will check at lunchtime again.

LoJack I think is about $750.00 (in Houston). We had it on a prior car. Interesting problem though - the insurance discount for having an alarm system in your car that many companies offer usually DOES NOT apply with LoJack by itself. Vehicle recovery versus deterrent factor of an alarm I guess is the issue. So... check your insurance provider to see if they offer a discount for an alarm (that could pay for the option right there over time) and if you get LoJack alone - see if they offer a discount (not as likely apparently).

Yes, there is a time delay. Need to look up the manuel for the number.

Continue pressing the truck open button for a few seconds will active the panic button.

I also love the heart beat signal.
