R56 Engine shut itself off at highway speed
I'm going to "spitball" an idea here.
Any chance it's a problem with the ENGINE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM? I recall it saying on the web site, it helps to prevent theft, without a key. Now all I see it saying is, it cuts out the starter. Does it cut off the engine too? If it does, ...could it be the battery in the key cutting out, or putting out a sporatic signal?
Question:
Do those with the problem have the remote convience option? The one with the key that does not have to be inserted? Could it possibly be the loss of the key signal?
As I said,...I'm "spitballing" ideas.

glangford's problem is that the idle management is screwed up, and can only be fixed by the dealer. The fact that it's intermittent doesn't matter, that's pretty common for idle problems. Of course it'd be nice to drive it in there when it's happening but from a good description they should be able to fix it.
Thanks, the dealer is definitely going to be involved. I left the SA a pretty long voice mail on saturday. Expect to hear from him today.
As far as gas mixture goes, I've used the same brand of top tier gas since I bought the car. Conoco 93 octane. Electrical doesn't make sense as it will drive as long as you keep the rpm up and not take your foot off the gas for idle.
Not even sure if I want to drive it up there, 90 miles, or just let them come get it. Not sure I want it cutting off at highway speeds.
What is involved in idle management that is not sw related and fixable???? Mass Air flow sensor, 02 sensor,???
