Mini theft is likely going to be up in about 6-7 years since BMW parts are $$...And 85% of mini's aren't base models, and people then want to do "add ons"...

Ahhh,, errr um, hate to inform you, the MINI has a built in fuel shut off, and electrical shut off. One of the main reasons they are VERY difficult to steal. The Alarm, is more of a deterent by "showing itself" (glowing/blinking light), and making noise when somebody touches the car (aka breaks a window, shakes it, tries to open hood...).

In anycase, in NY, most cars are stolen by flatbed truck, this allows them to ignore alarms, computerized electrical wiring/chips that most cars have today.

There isn't, and I will doubt there ever will be, a market for stolen MINI's. Lets face it, there not that much of a market for regular mini's.

Yeah, and locks on houses aren't going to keep out anyone who really wants in. The point is, an alarm will make your car a less likely target for someone who wants your CD's or anything else that may lurk inside, whether they can see them or not. And I LIKE blinking lights.

Word of warning about aftermarket alarms...

With the complex nature of the R56 DME circuitry, MINI service is being very strict about any modifications to the MINI electrical system. If you install an aftermarket alarm (or any electrical accessory), be prepared for grief if you should have any problems that involves electronics while under warranty....

Your experience may vary depending on which MINI dealer you visit...

Agreed, however, they must prove that the offending add-on is what is causing the problem. They cannot void a warranty (electrical or otherwise) because of a modification that is not causing the problem.

That's the theory, but the Magnuson-Moss Act has no teeth. If the dealer blames a problem on your mods and refuses to fix it under warranty, there's no recourse for you under the M-M Act other than to take it civil court, where MINIUSA can outspend you every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
