R56 What brand of premium gas do you like for your R56?
I use either Chevron or Philips, both of which show up on the Top Tier list. But there are some interesting arguments on which gas you should put in your car. Here's the best article I've found on the subject (Can Discount Gas Crimp Your Ride):

Here in Houston, I only see 87, 89 and 93 octane sold. I was thinking of trying 89. I might try 89 for a while then switch to 93 and see if there's any apreciable increase in fuel econome. The cost difference here is 10-12 cents/gallon.
As far as brand, ever since the anit-apartheid movement's boycott of Shell gas, I haven't liked using Shell. They were big time backers of the racist apartheid government. The boycott is over, but I still remember.

Hehe Brad, I have the same issue with Exxon. I would puch my car to another gas station even if I was in front of an Exxon. Ihave gone out of my way on many occasions to avoid Exxon.
Drives the Wife unit crazy, but in the end, she respects my position. Not enough to not buy Exxon, just enough to not give me grief over it.

What's the problem with Exxon, Skuzzy?
I have a problem with BP and don't buy it because of a terrible safety record at the refinery level, at least here in Houston.
Funny thing about Exxon--I didn't buy it for years because I had so much trouble with it in my Peugeot when fuel injection was still pretty new--I had problems every time I used the stuff. Haven't had any problems since then, though.
My hubby says no Citgo, either. He drives a commuter van and says everytime he's filled up with it he got terrible knocking. He boycotts the stuff now, even though it's very convenient.
As for non-ethanol gas, we're lucky enough to live near a county which permits the use of "full" gas, so he fills up our classic Porsche there whenever possible (he even plans trips around it).
The whole thing has me more confused than ever!

Exxon Valdez and the way they did thier best not to take any responsibility for that disaster nor offer any help to clean it up. And only stepping up after they were fined. Then watch how much they pay thier executives in returement. All in all, there is no way in hell I will ever spend a penny on anything they own or have thier fingers in.
Citgo I would not buy either. I have political and moral issues with the owners of Citgo.

Obviously Exxon was responsible for the disaster, but: "In 1992, the Coast Guard declared the cleanup complete and commended Exxon for its unprecedented effort. (Exxon spent approximately $2 billion during the clean up effort.)," according to Wikipedia. Don't know what's the truth...
The entire article is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exxon_Valdez_oil_spill
All of this has deviated from the original question of the which is the best gas for the engine (at least I THINK that was the original question). (I know, I know, buy locally and think globally.)

Check your gas mileage on 87 octane...my guess is there is very little to no difference between mileage running 91 vs 87. About the only thing you are doing by running premium when you don't need it is making for even higher profits for the oil companies.
