R55 manual Clutch replacement

OK hi all!

My clutch is starting to slip and it's time after 115k miles for a clutch replacement.

I unfortunately can't do the work myself so wondering if anyone can give me some guidance on estimated costs (part seems to be around 550$), how many hours of labor is it really to do a replacement?

I got quoted 3500$ with 15 hours of work? Is that reasonable or should i keep shopping around?

A solid budget would be ~$1,000 for parts and about ~$1,500 for labor.

You will want to replace the clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, release bearing), flywheel, flywheel bolts, clutch release lever, rear main seal, both axel seals at a minimum. A nice to replace while you're in there would be an LSD. But if you are not doing the work, that will add significantly to the cost since the gearbox will need to be opened up.

Just got finished doing this for my daughters car. 2009 r55 base (116k...original clutch and flywheel dated 2009 on removal) First and foremost F^*K RockAuto! They only sell the longer 25mm bolts that are to be used on a DMF. The solid flywheels require the 20mm hex bolts! How do I know? Cause they sold me those 25mm bolts and I installed them. Then I had to rip it all apart and put the shorter ones in. Flywheel was frozen and i burnt a starter finding out! Essentially did 2 clutch jobs. Saturday and Sunday gone! lol

I don't know where you are located...but I called around the cheapest I found was $1500 + parts. It's a $2500 job easy if you choose not to do it yourself. It was actually not that difficult...time consuming...but never really broke a sweat....except for that damn tie rod that didn't want to move....MAP gas to the rescue!

Hey all
Odd fix... But it worked...

I'll note I had significant slipping and honestly thought my transmission was boned...

I had a garage change the transmission fluid. (Something against the mini Cooper guidance as they say the transmission fluid is good for life in a manual transmission)

This actually almost entirely solved my issue or at least punted it down the road. 120k miles and still going on original parts.

Good luck! I hope it lasts.
